Van Gerwen Aiming For Premier Treble

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN is aiming to produce a crowd-pleasing display as he targets a third Betway Premier League title at The O2 on Thursday.

Reigning Premier League champion Van Gerwen topped the league table for a fifth successive year when he defeated Gary Anderson in their last regular season game in Aberdeen last week.

The pair now meet again at the semi-final stage on Thursday, with either Peter Wright or Phil Taylor then laying in wait for Van Gerwen in the final should he overcome the Scot.

Having averaged almost 105 throughout the Premier League season so far, Van Gerwen believes tha the will need to improve on that if he is to take the £250,000 top prize - but is confident that he can retain the prestigious trophy.

"I'm always in a position to deliver a good game, and I want to because the crowd and everyone deserves that," said Van Gerwen.

"I feel good, I had a good game when I had to play well last week against Gary, and I have to do the same.

"Even if I play a bad game I still average 102-103, so when I pull out my A-game, like I hope to do, then I can do something special again with 106-107 average. In games like that, on a longer format, that's what I'm hoping for.

"They know what they have to do to beat me if they want to win the tournament, but I need to make sure I hold them off by playing some good darts and putting them under pressure.

"It's four good players and you can't let them have a sniff of the trophy, because if you give them a finger they will take your hand. I want to win the trophy again and it would be really special if I can."
