Amazing Reception For Van Gerwen

January 05 2017

NEW William Hill World Darts Champion Michael van Gerwen received a special reception in his home town of Vlijmen on Thursday following his return to the Netherlands.

The Dutch hero recaptured the Sid Waddell Trophy on Monday night when he was victorious in a superb World Championship final against reigning champion Gary Anderson at Alexandra Palace.

The 27-year-old then scooped four further trophies at the PDC Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday, including the PDC Player of the Year title to recognise an outstanding 12 months which has featured an unprecedented 26 tournament wins.

Van Gerwen's return to the Netherlands firstly saw him meet the Dutch media in Vlijmen, before taking to the stage at a special reception in front of over 3,000 fans.

Van Gerwen paraded the Sid Waddell Trophy and was joined on stage by Deputy Prime Minister Lodewijk Asscher - just days after Prime Minister Mark Rutte called to congratulate him on his success shortly after winning Monday's final.

The World Champion then gave his fans and family more to cheer by announcing that wife Daphne is expecting their first child in 2017!
