ALMOST 200 players will battle for the 12 qualifying places at the PartyPoker.net Las Vegas Desert Classic VIII.

Knockout qualifiers will be held on Sunday and Monday at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino for the remaining places in the 32-player field for the televised stages of the Desert Classic.

Six players from each day's qualifiers will join the PDC's top 16 and four leading north Americans in front of the Sky Sports cameras from July 1-5.

Over 190 players have entered the qualifiers, including the 2003 Desert Classic champion Peter Manley, who was recently knocked out of the PDC's top 16 by Mark Walsh.

Australian Simon Whitlock will join Gary Anderson and Mark Webster in looking to make a Desert Classic debut, while Robert Thornton hopes to follow up his qualification last year (pictured) with a repeat success.

A strong Dutch contingent includes Jelle Klaasen, Michael van Gerwen, Vincent van der Voort, Roland Scholten, Co Stompe and Jan van der Rassel.

Players from as far afield as Japan, New Zealand and Australia have entered the qualifiers, along with players from the US, Canada and Europe.

The two qualifying events will be the best of nine legs throughout, and play will commence at 12pm local time. The draw will be made following the close of registration at 11am.
