TONY joined the PDC circuit in June 2007 after successfully qualifying for the UK Open.

He moved into the PDC ranks having won the Norway Open titles in 2006 and 2007 and also being a former two-time Sweden Open champion.

Since making the breakthrough in 2001 by reaching the final of the Denmark Open, Tony has picked up a number of titles on the circuit and his biggest win came in the 2005 Dutch Open.

A Lakeside Championship quarter-finalist in 2007, he reached the semi-finals of the South-West Regional Final for the 2007 UK Open to win a Bolton place.

Eccles then joined the PDC ahead of the UK Open, where he went down to Michael van Gerwen in the last 64.

A semi-final defeat in a Players Championship at Hayling Island then saw him narrowly miss out on a qualification place for the World Matchplay, although he came through the Las Vegas Desert Classic qualifiers before losing to Darin Young in that event.

He did enough in the remainder of the year to win a spot in the World Championship, where he defeated Wayne Jones and Steve Maish before losing a tight battle with Adrian Lewis.

Bill Davis ended his US Open hopes in the last 32, and he missed out in the Desert Classic qualifiers after a second round exit in the UK Open to Kevin Painter.

Eccles would avenge that loss to Painter in the World Matchplay, but then lost to Raymond van Barneveld in Blackpool.

A second Players Championship semi-final of the year followed in August, and a further quarter-final earned him a World Grand Prix debut.

He knocked out defending champion James Wade in the first round in Dublin, before losing to Mervyn King in the last 16 on his first challenge in the double-start event.

Eccles would clash again with Wade at the 2009 World Championship, with the left-hander this time coming out on top in round two.

Ronnie Baxter ended his hopes in the Players Championship and UK Open finals, while after missing out once more in the Desert Classic he was a first round victim of Wayne Mardle's in the World Matchplay.
