TERRY began playing darts as a teenager but only decided to turn professional aged 39 - having been a regular player on the County scene for Worcestershire without taking the step into competing regularly in competition.

He had competed in the 1997 News of the World Championship, just failing to reach the televised stages, and made his debut in a major tournament at the 2003 UK Open, losing to Denis Ovens in the last 64.

Jenkins continued his emergence over the next two years, qualifying for the 2003 Desert Classic and World Matchplay, winning the Bob Anderson Classic and making another UK Open appearance, reaching the last 64 once again.

He made his World Championship debut in the 2005 event, going down to Dave Askew, and went on to qualify for the World Matchplay for a second time that summer, reaching round two with a win over Keith Deller.

Jenkins also made his World Grand Prix debut in 2005, losing to Terry Jenkins, and wins in the Antwerp Open, Open Hotel Zwartewater and Primus Masters helped to move him into the world's top 16.

The next two years saw Andy Hamilton end his World Championship hopes, in round two of the 2006 event and the quarter-finals in 2007.

However, his development into a competitor at the top level continued with him reaching the last 16 of the UK Open, the quarter-finals of the 2006 Desert Classic and a first major final at the World Grand Prix, where he lost to Phil Taylor, as well as retaining his Antwerp Open and Open Hotel Zwartewater titles.

His run to the final of the World Grand Prix saw him earn a place in the 2007 Premier League Darts, which proved hugely successful for Jenkins, who reached the play-offs, finishing third in the league phase and then defeating Raymond van Barneveld to reach the final, with Taylor again defeating him.

Jenkins won two PDC Pro Tour events during the first half of 2007, in Antwerp and at Hayling Island, before reaching two more major finals during the summer, at the Desert Classic and World Matchplay - although this time it was van Barneveld and James Wade respectively who denied him a major title.

He had overcome Taylor in the semi-finals of the World Matchplay, and continued his good form to reach the final of the World Grand Prix for a second time in October 2007, although Wade again emerged victorious.

Now ranked fourth in the PDC Order of Merit, Jenkins suffered disappointment in the 2008 World Championship, losing to Kirk Shepherd in the first round after missing seven darts for victory, and he missed out on the play-offs in his second Premier League campaign.

John Part ended his UK Open challenge in the last 32 and was a second round victim in the Desert Classic and World Matchplay, to Roland Scholten and Dennis Priestley.

That autumn proved more successful, with Jenkins reaching the semi-finals at the World Grand Prix, losing to Taylor, before winning the John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic Players Championship in Killarney.

He then went on to reach the final of the Grand Slam of Darts, although Taylor again proved too strong in the decider.

Another disappointing World Championship campaign followed, with Dennis Smith defeating him in round one, but he began 2009 with victory in the Bobby Bourn Memorial Players Championship.

He would also lose in round one at the Players Championship finals, to Wayne Jones, but improved performances in the Premier League led to a fifth-placed finish.

Jenkins then reached the quarter-finals at both the UK Open and Las Vegas Desert Classic, and topped off a successful summer with a run to the final of the World Matchplay, but once again Taylor denied him a major title with an 18-4 victory.
