GARY claimed Premier League Darts glory in 2011 and has confirmed his status as Scotland's most successful player since Jocky Wilson after joining the PDC.

He made his breakthrough in winning the 2001 Welsh Open and qualifying for the following year's Lakeside Championship.

Although he was a first round loser, to Stefan Nagy, he reached the semi-finals of the 2003 tournament before losing 5-2 to Ritchie Davies.

Despite victories in Opens across Europe, including Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Northern Ireland and the British and Scottish Opens, Anderson failed to hit the heights on the televised stage until 2007.

He powered to victory in the International Darts League, defeating Mark Webster in the final having seen off Adrian Lewis and James Wade in the knockout quarter-finals and semi-finals.

September 2007 then saw Anderson back up his IDL win with triumph in the World Darts Trophy, culminating in a hugely impressive victory over Phil Taylor in the final.

He went on to reach the semi-finals at the inaugural Grand Slam of Darts, an achievement matched in the 2008 event - losing to Taylor in 2007 and Terry Jenkins last year.

The 2009 Lakeside Championship saw Anderson reach the quarter-finals before losing to Tony O'Shea, only the third time in eight appearances he had won through the first round.

Gary joined the PDC in February 2009, making his debut on the PDC Pro Tour in Irvine the following month.

He quickly made his mark, reaching successive finals in Nuland, Holland in Players Championships - losing on both days to Phil Taylor at the start of April - and hitting a nine-darter in an event in Derby.

He went on to win a Players Championship in Newport in May 2009, and bounced back from a second round loss in the UK Open to qualify for the Las Vegas Desert Classic, reaching the quarter finals before losing to Taylor.

James Wade ended his hopes at the World Matchplay with a second round victory, while Adrian Lewis was his conqueror on Anderson's World Grand Prix debut.

Three successive Players Championship quarter-final appearances were accompanied by a run to the last eight in the European Championship, where he was the victim of a record 118 average from Taylor.

The 2009 Grand Slam of Darts, though, proved less successful than previous years, despite winning Group F, as Scott Waites took a deciding leg victory over the Scot in the last 16.

After representing Scotland alongside Robert Thornton in the Jocky Wilson Cup, Anderson made his debut in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship in December 2009, enjoying a win over Jamie Caven in the first round before losing out to Ronnie Baxter in the last 32.

His 2010 challenge began with a first round defeat in the Players Championship at Purfleet, to Jelle Klaasen, but he bounced back to reach one final and two semi-finals in the opening four weekends on the PDC ProTour.

A victory in the fourth UK Open Qualifier preceded a superb display in the UK Open itself at Bolton, as Anderson won through to his first major PDC final, defeating Michael van Gerwen, Paul Nicholson, Mervyn King - despite a nine-darter from the Englishman - Andy Hamilton and Tony Ayres, although Taylor denied him the title with an 11-5 victory in the decider.

Players Championship victories in Barnsley and Las Vegas followed during June, and Anderson's form continued with a whitewash of fellow Scot Thornton in the World Matchplay, although Jelle Klaasen's 14-12 second round win ended his Blackpool hopes.

After Jamie Caven knocked Anderson out of the European Championship in the first round, Anderson bounced back with a fine showing in the World Grand Prix, reaching the quarter-finals before losing out 4-3 in a seven-set thriller against Taylor.

Anderson did pick up an Irish victory at the John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic Players Championship in Killarney, and further televised quarter-finals followed at the Grand Slam of Darts, where Anderson won his group but lost 16-15 to Wayne Jones in the last eight, and in the PDC World Cup, where he again paired up with Thornton.

The Scot success during the year culminated in a brilliant display at the 2011 World Championship, as he defeated Japan's Morihiro Hashimoto, Dennis Priestley, Andy Smith and Raymond van Barneveld to reach the semi-finals by dropping just three sets, and a 6-2 win over Terry Jenkins saw him win through to the final.

His dreams of claiming the sport's biggest prize, though, were dashed on this occasion by Adrian Lewis, who hit a nine-darter in the performance of his career as he took a 7-5 win to deny Anderson.

Anderson reached another final in his next event, at the Players Championship Finals in Doncaster, and he edged closer to another major title before losing 13-12 to Taylor in the decider.

That, though, was ideal preparation for his debut Premier League Darts season, which saw him pick up four straight victories to open his challenge, and although he finished third in the final league table, victories over van Barneveld in the semi-finals and Lewis - who he saw off 10-4 in the final - saw Anderson claim his first PDC major and a £125,000 prize.

He had also won two UK Open Qualifiers in the early stages of 2011, and followed his Premier League Darts triumph with a Players Championship win in Crawley 48 hours later.

Anderson also went on to join an elite group of players to win back-to-back Players Championships in the same weekend with his success in Nuland in June, although he suffered disappointment in the summer's majors as Andy Hamilton knocked him out in the first round of the World Matchplay and Peter Wright ended his European Championship hopes in round two.
