THE final 16 places in the PDC US Open were filled following the Friday Night Madness Qualifier at Mohegan Sun Casino.

The event saw 79 players competing over three hours to throw a leg of 501 in the fewest number of darts, with the top 16 players from the leaderboard qualifying.

Fred Bigelow and Frank Smith shared the best leg of the night with 13-darters - Bigelow achieving his in his very first attempt just after the 7pm start.

Kevin Joyce, Timothy Murray and Joseph Swick all hit 14-darters, with five players behind on 15.

John McGowan, the New York-based brother of Irish star Mick McGowan, was one of four players to qualify by right on 16 darts.

Seven players tied on 17 darts played off for the final two places in the field, which were taken by

Qualifier 7 takes on Raymond van Barneveld, while Qualifier 11 meets Adrian Lewis in round one and Qualifier two will take on Peter Manley.

Four players who hit 18-dart legs missed out on a place in the play-off.
