COLIN LLOYD 5-6 ADRIAN LEWIS

ADRIAN LEWIS edged out world number one Colin Lloyd 6-5 in a decider to move into the last eight of the World Series of Darts.

The 21-year-old from Stoke prevailed in a thriller to open the second round of the tournament at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.

Lewis took the opening leg before Lloyd won two successive legs to move 2-1 up.

Following a short break to check air conditioning, Lewis took three legs back-to-back to turn his deficit into a 4-2 lead.

Despite a maximum from Lewis in the seventh leg, Lloyd stepped in to take out a 100 finish, before Lewis moved to within one leg of the match by taking the eighth with double top.

The youngster paid for missing one dart at the bullseye for the match in the next, Lloyd pulling back to 5-4 before then levelling the match after Lewis was off-target with two further darts for the match.

But Lewis began the decider with a 180, and two further ton-plus scores set him up to seal victory with double 12.

ANDY JENKINS 4-6 DENIS OVENS

DENIS OVENS produced a fine comeback to defeat Andy Jenkins 6-4 and win a place in the quarter-finals of the World Series of Darts.

Ovens trailed the world number eight 3-1 before winning four of the next five on his way to the win.

Jenkins took the opening leg with double eight, but the next four all went against the throw.

Firstly, Jenkins took out 52 after Ovens missed two darts at the double, before Ovens landed a maximum and checked out 64 in getting off the mark.

Jenkins then hit double ten with his third dart to open up a 3-1 cushion, and he missed two darts to further extend that before Ovens took out double 16.

The Hertfordshire-based star then held his throw to level the match, with Jenkins hitting a maximum on his way to winning the seventh leg.

Ovens won the next two legs to move ahead for the first time at 5-4, and a neat two-dart 56 finish ensured his place in the last eight.

PETER MANLEY 6-2 MARK WALSH

PETER MANLEY roared past Mark Walsh to seal his place in the quarter-finals of the World Series of Darts with a 6-2 victory.

The World Championship finalist was in top form on his favoured double twenty as he powered into a 5-1 lead - landing four times in the top bed to leave Walsh trailing.

He included a 116 finish in the fifth leg, and both players landed maximums in the next before Manley took out his favourite finish.

Walsh stepped in with a 120 'Shanghai' checkout to win the seventh leg and remain alive in the match, after Manley missed five darts for the victory.

Manley was also wayward at double top in the next, but had a second bite at the cherry and hit double ten to seal the win.

ROLAND SCHOLTEN 4-6 DENNIS PRIESTLEY

DENNIS PRIESTLEY overcame stubborn resistance from Roland Scholten before winning through to the quarter-finals of the World Series of Darts.

The two-time World Champion twice held three-leg leads during the match, only for his Dutch opponent to hit back and put the pressure on.

Priestley landed two maximums in the opening three legs in opening a 3-0 lead before Scholten landed a 180 of his own on his way to the fourth leg.

Priestley responded with a maximum in the next, eventually taking out double ten to put 4-1 up, but the nip and tuck continued as the duo shared the next two legs.

Scholten took out a crucial two-dart 76 finish in the eighth leg to pull back to 5-3, and then won the ninth with double top.

But two 180s from Priestley in the tenth gave him enough cusion to miss six darts for the match before landing double two for victory.

PHIL TAYLOR 6-3 TERRY JENKINS

PHIL TAYLOR won Sunday's opening second round clash at the World Series of Darts, seeing off the challenge of Terry Jenkins 6-3.

Taylor started brilliantly, opening up a 3-0 lead before Jenkins won three of the next four legs to put himself back in the match.

The 13-time World Champion, though, stepped up to take the next two legs and seal his last eight spot.

He twice took out double top in the opening three legs, and landed a neat two-dart 68 finish in the second to open up an early lead.

Jenkins found his rhythm, winning the next two legs and landing a maximum to pull back to 3-2.

Taylor won the sixth after Jenkins missed one dart at double ten for a 140 finish to move 4-2 up.

The opposite happened in the next, Taylor missing with double 12 for a 144 checkout to allow Jenkins to land double five.

Taylor won the eighth leg with a 76 finish, and a magnificent 11-darter in the next wrapped up the win.

KEVIN PAINTER 5-6 MARK DUDBRIDGE

MARK DUDBRIDGE produced a dramatic comeback to win a place in the quarter-finals of the World Series of Darts with a 6-5 win over Kevin Painter.

The former World Championship finalist lost the opening two legs to find himself from behind from the off, but won four of the final six legs to book his place in the last eight.

Painter stepped in to take the first leg after Dudbridge missed double top, and then produced a 107 finish in the next.

Dudbridge responded with a 94 checkout in the third, but Painter hit double 18 to win the next and go 3-1 up.

Dudbridge won the fifth with double 12, but allowed Painter to to regain his cushion when he missed the bullseye for a 164 finish, the world number six hitting double top with his last dart.

The seventh leg saw Painter miss the bull for a 118 checkout, with Dudbridge landing double top to cut the deficit to 4-3, before levelling matter by winning the next to break his opponent's throw.

He then moved in front for the first time in the game by taking the ninth leg, and a maximum in the next look to put him on course for the win.

But he hit single nine instead of 12 when setting up a finish, and Painter stepped in to hit double 16 and take the game into a decider.

Dudbridge found his trebles at the right time, opening with scores of 180 and 140 before coolly checking out 64 with treble 16 and double eight.

WAYNE MARDLE 6-3 JOHN KUCZYNSKI

WAYNE MARDLE ended the American Dream at the 2006 World Series of Darts with a 6-3 victory over John Kuczynski.

Kuczynski was the only US Qualifier to come through the first round of the tournament, giving himself a chance to claim the $1 million first prize on offer for an American champion.

However, he came up against an on-song Mardle at the Mohegan Sun Casino, with the double Las Vegas Desert Classic finalist proving too strong with a classy display.

Mardle started superbly, landing a maximum on his way to taking the first leg against the throw and then taking out an 84 finish in the second.

Kuczynski replied with a 180 of his own in the next, and a 140 shot set up a 63 finish.

Mardle won the next two legs to move 4-1 up, but a fine 119 checkout - ending on the bull - saw Kuczynski hit back.

Mardle landed another maximum in the seventh leg, and took out double five with his last dart to go 5-2 up, with his opponent on 31.

A score of 140 from Kuczynski set up a one-dart double top finish as he took the eighth leg, but Mardle replied by opening the ninth with a maximum.

He set up a 38 finish with a score of 140, with Kuczynski's 132 when needing 164 applying the pressure.

But Mardle's bizarre, improvised double two, double 17 finish saw him complete the victory and end American hopes of a million dollar triumph.

RONNIE BAXTER 6-4 ALAN WARRINER-LITTLE

RONNIE BAXTER set up a quarter-final with Wayne Mardle at the World Series of Darts by ending Alan Warriner-Little's challenge with a 6-4 win.

The world number three produced some clinical finishing to see off the Cumbrian at the Mohegan Sun Casino and move into the last eight.

Warriner-Little started well, landing a maximum on his way to winning the opening leg.

Baxter responded by winning the second on double top - but missed at the same bed when he had the chance to steal the third, with his opponent eventually hitting double five.

Baxter regained his range on the bed, winning the next three legs without reply on double twenty, before Warriner-Little took the seventh in the same fashion.

The pair shared the next two legs to leave Baxter 5-4 up, and the Swindon star stepped up a gear in the tenth leg.

He opened with scores of 180 and 140 before landing a century to set up an 81 finish, taking the match with a fine 12-dart leg.
