MARK DUDBRIDGE 3-2 ANDY JENKINS
(2-3, 3-1, 1-3, 3-2, 3-2)

MARK DUDBRIDGE won a dramatic final-leg shoot-out against Andy Jenkins to move into the last eight of the SkyBet World Grand Prix in a five-set thriller.

Over an hour of battle saw the pair locked as they entered the fifth leg of the fifth set - fighting over one leg for a place in the quarter-finals.

Jenkins landed his opening double at the first attempt and had a healthy head start as Dudbridge missed his first nine darts to got off the mark.

But his first 180 of the game hauled him back into the contest and he stepped up after Jenkins missed two darts for the win to take out 101 on double 12 - sparking a wild celebration from the flamboyant Bristolian.

"It was a one-in-a-million leg," said Dudbridge. "I'll probably never do anything like that again - to not get away and be so far behind, you start to think you're out of the tournament.

"I snatched my darts and it took me ten darts to get in. It's tense up there and anyone will tell you how difficult it is.

"It was amazing - the best leg I've ever thrown in my life."

The game was finely balanced from the start, with the first four legs going with the throw - Dudbridge taking out 120 and 96 - before Jenkins produced a fine final leg to break the throw and take the opening set.

Dudbridge struck straight back with a 110 checkout in the second set's opener followed by a 90 finish on double top before winning the set 3-1.

Jenkins took the third by the same scoreline, and hit back from 1-0 down in the fourth to lead 2-1 thanks to a brilliant 144 checkout.

Dudbridge, though, levelled on double five and then hit an 86 finish on double top to send the game into the fifth set.

Double nine put Dudbridge ahead before a miss on double top allowed Jenkins to level.

Dudbridge took the third leg but a 180 from Jenkins helped him to the fourth as he sent the game into a decider.

Jenkins' start put him clear before Dudbridge's remarkable comeback saw him snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

ADRIAN GRAY 3-1 ANDY SMITH
(0-3, 3-2, 3-2, 3-2)

ADRIAN GRAY came from a set down to reach the last eight of the SkyBet World Grand Prix with a 3-1 win over Andy Smith.

Gray followed up his momentous defeat of Phil Taylor on Monday with another solid display, overcoming a nervy start to edge out the world number 24.

Smith had defeated Ronnie Baxter in round one, and seemed on course for a second successive World Grand Prix quarter-final when he took the first set 3-0.

A 15-darter from Gray to open set two seemed to settle the 26-year-old, although Smith took out 115 in the next leg and then broke the throw to lead 2-1.

Gray stepped in to break straight back and send the set into a decider, and then took advantage of a rare slip at the start of the leg from Smith - who failed to get away within three darts for the first time in the game - to hit a 177 score and then land double nine to square the game.

Gray finished 83 on the bullseye to kick off set three, but Smith again took two legs in a row to lead 2-1.

But the 40-year-old wasted three darts for the set in the fourth leg to allow Gray to level, before the rising start finished 148 on double 14 to move 2-1 up in the contest.

Another bull finish and double eight gave Gray a 2-1 lead in the fourth set, before Smith hit back on double top to level at 2-2.

But further misses from Smith gave Gray a chance to wrap up the win, and he hit double nine to book his first major quarter-final place.

"I wasn't too happy with the first set but I went off stage to compose myself and managed to take the next," said Gray.

"I was shaking throughout and I don't know how the darts went in!

"After beating Phil I spoke to some experienced professionals, Denis Ovens and Rod Harrington, and they told me to keep my feet on the ground and not get carried away.

"I'll take any advice on offer because this is new heights for me!"

TERRY JENKINS 3-2 CHRIS MASON
(3-2, 0-3, 3-2, 0-3, 3-0)

TERRY JENKINS produced a superb final set to knock Chris Mason out of the 2007 SkyBet World Grand Prix in a thrilling second round clash.

The duo shared the first four sets of an entertaining encounter before Jenkins stepped up a gear in the decider - punishing missed darts from Mason in the first two legs before putting himself into the last eight.

"I don't think it was my best display, but I did enough in the legs I had to," said Jenkins.

"I wasn't great on double 20 but I live to fight another day."

Jenkins, the runner-up in Dublin 12 months ago, made a fine start to lead 2-0 in the first set before Mason hit back to level thanks to double top and then a 12-darter in leg four.

But Jenkins landed a maximum in the decider, and took out 91 on double top to take the first set.

Mason took advantage of wayward starting and finishing from his opponent in the next, taking the second set without reply and then leading in the third.

But back-to-back legs saw Jenkins edge in front, and he then won the deciding leg with a killer 100 finish of five, treble 19 and double 19 - as Mason waited on 45 for the set.

Again Mason - who recently qualified for the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts - responded well, taking out 81 for the first leg of set four and then double 12 and double 14 in the next two to send the match into the final set.

But he paid the price for missed doubles in the first two legs of the fifth set, Jenkins hitting a 78 finish and then double six to move to the brink of victory,

He then punished seven missed starting doubles from Mason in the next, landing a fourth 180 and then double top to move into the last eight.

JOHN PART 3-0 WAYNE MARDLE
(3-1, 3-0, 3-2)

JOHN PART stormed past Wayne Mardle in straight sets with an impressive performance to put himself into the last eight of the SkyBet World Grand Prix.

The Canadian - twice a runner-up in the double-start event - was in bullish mood to set up a quarter-final against Adrian Gray.

He dropped just three legs in the match, and landed some decisive finishes to end Mardle's hopes.

Part took the first two legs to open up an early cushion and won the first set 3-1 to put himself in command.

Double 16 gave Part the opening leg of set two, and he then stepped in to break the throw after Mardle burst his score.

A fine 112 checkout then saw Part seal the set and a 2-0 lead, although Mardle threatened a fightback with a 14-darter to begin the third set.

Part took out back-to-back 15-darters to lead 2-1 before Mardle levelled, but a missed dart at double top from the Englishman would be his final chance as the double World Champion completed the win.

"I had to go out and take the game to Wayne because he's been a bit of a bogey player for me," said Part.

"He's always tough but I hit the right shots at the right times."

Part admitted that he would originally have expected to meet Phil Taylor in the last eight, but will now meet the 13-time World Champion's conqueror Adrian Gray instead,

"With Phil being out the draw is more open than it could have been when we started, so this was an important win for me," said Part.

"Adrian's a great player. I sponsored him a for a year a while back and I know what he can do. He's stuck with it and is seeing the results now.

"But I'm not worried about him - he has got to beat me now and that's the way I see it. It's a longer format and hopefully I can maintain my composure through the good spells and the bad spells, and that could be important."
