Fleet Wins Australian Matchplay

ANTHONY FLEET won the DPA Australian Matchplay by defeating Jeremy Fagg 6-2 at the Redcliffe Darts Club.

Fleet also picked up victories over Mal Raines, Col Embrey, Glen Jones and Pat Orreal in the knockout stage of the event in Redcliffe.

Fagg overcame James Bailey in the semis, and was also victorious against Robbie King, Geoff Kime and Steve Duke Jnr in his run to the decider.

Orreal - who played in the 2007 Grand Slam of Darts - defeated young star Mitchell Clegg in the quarter-finals.

Fleet now sits 48 points clear at the top of the AGP Order of Merit table, ahead of Sean Reed as he bids to return to the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, having previously competed in 2007.

Fleet's win was his third in recent months, having taken victory in early March at the Montmorency RSL Victorian Open and in Unanderra in mid-April.

David Platt - the former PDC player who has relocated to Australia - and Barry Jouannet have also picked up a brace of wins recently, while Jerry Weyman was a winner at Albion Park Bowling Club and Mick McCreedie won the Cooma Car Club.
