Grand Slam Build-Up Continues

THE build-up to the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts has continued in Wolverhampton - on the football pitch and horse racing track!

The 2011 Grand Slam of Darts begins on Saturday with the first of nine days of action at the Wolves Civic, featuring 32 stars of the sport.

Local hero Wayne Jones, who reached the semi-finals of last year's tournament, paid a special visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers' training ground on Thursday.

The darting ace had also been a special guest alongside former World Champion Mark Webster when Wolves played Manchester City at Molineux recently.

And he enjoyed a kickaround with Kevin Foley and Matthew Jarvis before being given a tour of Wolves' training complex.

Friday afternoon will see the focus switch to another sporting venue in Wolverhampton, the Dunstall Park racecourse, for Friday's race meeting, which will open at 4.15 with the Grand Slam Darts at Wolves Civic Nursery.

The seven runners who will take part in the PDC-sponsored five furlong race are:
Little China
Blodwen Abbey
Worth
Profile Star
Compton Target
Uncle Timmy
Musical Strike

Many sessions for the tournament have already sold out, with ticket sales already higher ahead of the 2011 Grand Slam of Darts than they were for the entire event last year.

Tickets are still available for some sessions and can be purchased from the Wolves Civic Box Office on 0870 320 7000.
