Scandinavian Circuit Launched

THE PDC are creating & endorsing a new Scandinavian circuit of events which will see €40,000 paid out across eight tournaments this year.

Operated by the new Scandinavian Darts Corporation, players from eight countries in the region will be able to compete in a series of €5,000 tournaments.

The eventual SDC Order of Merit winner and runner-up will receive entry into the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship.

The Order of Merit winner will also receive a Tour Card to join the PDC circuit full-time in 2013, with the players ranked second-fifth gaining free entry into the 2013 Qualifying School.

The eight events will be held from June-September in Denmark, Finland and Sweden, with two tournaments being held per weekend for players from those nations as well as the Aland Islands, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and Norway.

The SDC has been formed following co-operation between the Danish Darts League, Pro Darts Finland and Pro Darts Sweden, who have all provided qualifiers from their own circuits for the World Championship in recent years.

Stars have included Denmark's six-time World Championship qualifier Per Laursen and Sweden's Magnus Caris, who returned to top-level darts in 2009 and is now ranked 58th in the PDC Order of Merit.

"The PDC is delighted to be working with the newly-formed SDC to help get this tour off the ground," said PDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter.

"Scandinavia is a strong darts region and this tour will energise local participation as well as providing a stepping stone for players who have aspirations to emulate the likes of Magnus Caris and become fully fledged PDC Tour Card holders.

"With the advent of the European Tour this year, the PDC is committed to spreading professional darts around the Continent and this feeder tour will complement the already excellent work performed by our partners in Denmark, Finland and Sweden."

The SDC circuit is the latest to be formed in affiliation with the PDC, replicating the circuit run by DartPlayers Australia and also the new North American Pro Tour.
