Stars In Baywatch Spoof

THE stars of the Betfair World Matchplay swapped the oche for Blackpool beach promenade to send up the iconic opening sequence of the US TV smash hit Baywatch.

With the LA sun nowhere to be seen on the Lancashire coast, a number of top players, including former World Matchplay winner Colin Lloyd, world number five Wes Newton and World Youth Champion James Hubbard, took time out from their busy schedules to film the startling beach scenes, complete with seaside donkey rides and pier games.

Sporting an ample chest wig, darts legend and Betfair Ambassador Wayne 'Hawaii 501' Mardle is a natural in the role of the David 'The Hoff' Hasslehoff, and there are also appearances from Dave Chisnall, Joe Cullen and Dean Winstanley.

And while it was more Lancashire hotpot than LA hotspot, there was no shortage of beach glamour as the players were joined by red swimsuit clad PDC walk-on girls in a typically British reimagining of the cult show's opening credits.

Current Sky Sports commentator and video star Wayne Mardle said: "I've been training hard for my role as "The Hoff" and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

"It's good to know I've got a second career in me if I choose to join the Blackpool Beach Patrol next summer!"

Alex Bake from Betfair said: "The original show was all about, sun, sea, glamour and drama, so where better to recreate those scenes than Blackpool beach in this great British summer.

"Darts is all about the great personalities that play it, and we wanted to showcase the talent on stage at the Betfair World Matchplay."
