Lewis Sets Autumn Goals

WORLD CHAMPION Adrian Lewis is hoping to regain his best form in the second half of 2012.

The Stoke star had begun this year by claiming his second successive Ladbrokes World Darts Championship crown and also won the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts alongside Phil Taylor in February.

However, he missed out on the McCoy's Premier League Darts Play-Offs, lost out in the last 32 of the Speedy Services UK Open and was knocked out of the Betfair World Matchplay by Terry Jenkins in the quarter-finals.

The 27-year-old is currently enjoying a summer break which has included his marriage to partner Sarah and a honeymoon - but he is determined to return to action in September in top form.

"I've got married and I've got a son on the way, so everything's great really, but I was very disappointed after Blackpool," admitted Lewis.

"I put the work in for that and I'll start pushing now towards the European Championship and, of course, the World Championship.

"To me, with the quality of player that I am sometimes, I should be playing better. I'll work on it and put things right, and hopefully it will come together."

Lewis' World Matchplay challenge was accompanied by the chance to overtake Stoke rival Taylor and move to the head of the PDC Order of Merit.

However, his defeat and Taylor's subsequent win in Blackpool means that Lewis has to wait a little longer before he can achieve his dream of topping the world rankings.

"That was the first tournament where I had the chance to the world number one and I had it at the back of my mind in Blackpool," he concedes.

"If I can win the European Championship or the World Grand Prix I could still go ahead of him so I'll go for it!"
