German Darts Masters Round Three

IAN WHITE landed a nine-dart finish as he booked a place in the quarter-finals of the German Darts Masters on Sunday afternoon, with Robert Thornton also starring as he moved into the last eight.

White became the second player in the £82,100 European Tour event to achieve a perfect leg as he followed Mark Webster in posting a nine-dart finish, hitting two 180s and finishing 141 on double 12 in his third round clash with Andy Hamilton.

While Webster went on to lose in his first round game with Andree Welge on Friday, White narrowly avoided the same fate as he sneaked past Hamilton 6-5, with the World Championship finalist missing a dart to take victory in the deciding leg.

White will now play Speedy Services UK Open champion Thornton in the quarter-finals on Sunday evening, after the Scot sensationally whitewashed number four seed Wes Newton with a 107 average.

World Champion Adrian Lewis dropped just one leg in his demolition of Northern Ireland's Michael Mansell and he now faces Tony West, whose impressive weekend continued as he came from 3-0 down to defeat Terry Jenkins 6-4.

Simon Whitlock edged out Wayne Jones in another dramatic decider, with the Wolverhampton man missing a dart for victory in each of the game's final two legs before the Australian took out 102 to snatch the win, having never led until hitting the winning double.

Whitlock meets world number three James Wade in the last eight, after the left-hander came from 4-3 down to win 6-4 against Nigel Heydon, hitting finishes of 120, 106 and 105 before sealing victory with back-to-back 14-darters.

The other quarter-final will be an all-Dutch affair as Raymond van Barneveld plays Vincent van der Voort.

Van Barneveld ended German hopes in the event with a 6-2 win over Andree Welge in their last 16 clash, while van der Voort was a 6-4 winner over emerging Dutchman Jerry Hendriks.

The tournament will play to a finish on Sunday night, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final taking place in front of an expected crowd of 2,500 at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, where the champion will take home a £15,000 first prize.
