WORLD CHAMPION Adrian Lewis was sensationally knocked out of the PartyPoker.net European Championship with a 6-0 whitewash to Ian White on Friday night, as Raymond van Barneveld produced a record-breaking display in his win over Terry Jenkins at the RWE Sporthalle in Germany.
Lewis, the number two seed and odds-on favourite for his clash with White, suffered the shock of the tournament so far as he slumped to defeat without winning a leg in the all-Stoke battle.
Three missed doubles in the opening leg set the tone for the match as White capitalised on double ten, and the rising star took the next five legs, hitting a 101 checkout along the way, to roar into the second round.
White has been in fine form recently, reaching the German Darts Masters final a fortnight ago - where he lost to Lewis - and a Players Championship final last weekend, but he admitted: "It's amazing and I would never have expected to win 6-0 - I'm lost for words!
"Everything went for me tonight and I couldn't seem to miss. I took my chances and the first leg was pretty important because it settled me down and maybe Adrian started to think about his game after missing those doubles.
"I'm enjoying my darts at the moment and everything's going well for me."
White will now play Belgium's Kim Huybrechts in the second round, after last year's quarter-finalist took a 6-4 win over Vincent van der Voort.
"It was a tight game, but my finishing was great and I know it will have to be just as good on Saturday," said Huybrechts.
"Ian's had a couple of great weeks and although it's no surprise that he beat Adrian, people wouldn't have expected it to be 6-0."
Raymond van Barneveld, meanwhile, recorded his highest-ever televised average of 113.04 and hit a flawless six doubles from as many attempts in his 6-1 win over number seven seed Terry Jenkins.
The Dutchman now plays fellow countryman Michael van Gerwen in the last 16 on Saturday night, and admitted: "I've been playing so well in practice and working really hard on my finishing, and it's great to take that onto stage.
"It should be a great game with Michael on Saturday, he's a fast player and that will suit me, and I'm happy to see him playing so well at the moment."
Van Gerwen also impressed as he averaged 100.51 in his 6-5 win over Andy Smith, who hit back from 4-1 down to force a deciding leg only to miss two darts to snatch the victory and allow the 23-year-old to land double four to progress.
"My performance was brilliant and I feel great, but it would have been unbelievable if I'd lost that game!" said van Gerwen. "After going 4-1 up I should have made it easier for myself but Andy played really well."
World number three James Wade was knocked out 6-3 by former World Matchplay winner Colin Lloyd, who took an early 4-1 lead and held off the left-hander's fightback to secure his second round place.
"That's a cracking win for me and I'm very happy," said Lloyd, who has now won seven of his last eight meetings with Wade. "James let me in a few times and I took my chances and played some solid stuff."
Lloyd now plays Richie Burnett in the last 16, with the Welshman enjoying a 6-3 win over Co Stompe.
The night's other winners were number six seed Simon Whitlock, who overcame Mark Walsh 6-2, and Dave Chisnall, who was a 6-3 winner against young Dutchman Gino Vos.
The pair will meet in Saturday's second round, with Whitlock admitting: "I'm looking forward to playing Dave - I've never beaten him yet so I know I've got to turn up and perform.
"I'm happy with the [against Mark] performance in the end - I started a bit slowly but hit my straps at the right time and it's always good to finish strongly."
The second round will be split across two sessions on Saturday, with reigning champion Phil Taylor in action in the afternoon when he plays Dutch youngster Jerry Hendriks.
Germany's Andree Welge will play Brendan Dolan in the opening game, with Andy Hamilton facing Ronnie Baxter and Wes Newton playing Kevin Painter, before Friday's winners face off in the evening session.
Saturday's games will be screened live on ESPN HD and ESPN Classic in the UK, as well as on Fox Sports in Australia and online via Sport1 in Germany, RTL7 in the Netherlands and LIVEPDC.TV.

6-5 - A sensational game comes to a dramatic conclusion, with van Gerwen hitting a 174 to leave 90 after nine darts only to miss darts at double 16 and eight and then put three darts on the wire of double four. Smith, though, misses double 16 and eight to complete a remarkable win, and the Dutchman finally finds double four to progress.
Michael van Gerwen: "That was an amazing game. My performance was brilliant and I feel great, but it would have been unbelievable if I'd lost that game! After going 4-1 up I should have made it easier for myself but Andy played really well. In the last leg, the three darts at double four were so close and I thought I'd lost it, but I was so happy that Andy missed and let me in."
