Chisnall Hits Walsh For Six!

DAVE CHISNALL booked his place in the Championship League Darts Winners Group by defeating Mark Walsh 6-3 in the Group Six final of the internet-streamed event on Thursday.

The St Helens thrower, competing in his first season of Championship League Darts, had been the Group Three runner-up three weeks ago and had reached the semi-finals in Group Four and Group Five earlier this week.

However, he finally managed to progress to the big-money Winners Group on November 1 with a brilliant showing on Thursday, as he now aims to take the £10,000 title and win a place in the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts.

Chisnall won six of his seven league games in the eight-player round-robin stage during Thursday's Group Six, being joined by Jamie Caven at the head of the league table.

He then averaged 105.55 in a superb 6-1 semi-final win over Robert Thornton before seeing off Walsh 6-3 in the decider.

Chisnall made the early running, hitting a 180 in the opening leg and taking three in a row as he led 4-1 before Walsh threatened a fightback by cutting the gap to one leg.

Chisnall, though, landed his 23rd 180 of the day as a 14-dart finish moved him 5-3 up, before landing double eight to seal victory.

"It's feels great to get through," said Chisnall, who won £3,200 on the day. "I was really determined to win today's group because I was getting pretty tired and I didn't want to have to try my luck in the last two groups.

"I like playing in a league system and I've enjoyed the four days in this event so far. You're not out of the tournament if you lose in the league stage so you can build your form through the competition.

"I've got to the semi-finals in all the previous days but it was good to sneak the win today and I'm looking forward to coming back for the Winners Group.

"It's a big day for me because I know that if I get to the final or win it then I'll qualify for the Grand Slam, so that's something extra on top of just being Championship League Darts winner which I'm aiming for."

Chisnall will now travel to Killarney for this weekend's two Players Championships at the Gleneagle Hotel and INEC complex.

"I'll be doing my best in Killarney," he added. "I know I'm playing well and my confidence is good."

Walsh will now return to Crondon Park GC in Essex to play in Group Seven on Tuesday October 30, having picked up £2,450 in prize money to soften the blow of defeat in a second final of the week, after losing to Phil Taylor in the Group Four decider.

Walsh had edged out Colin Osborne to finish fourth in the league table with four wins from his eight matches, and saw off Caven 6-1 in the semis.

Caven, in his first appearance in the event this year, won six of his league matches with some superb displays in a welcome return to form, but saw his worst performance come in the last four.

Reigning Speedy Services UK Open champion Thornton was the day's other semi-finalist, picking up four wins from his seven league games, and he is joined in progressing to Group Seven by Osborne and Paul Nicholson.

Nicholson, the Group Five runner-up to Simon Whitlock on Wednesday, won just two of his league games this time around but narrowly survived elimination on leg difference ahead of Canadian John Part.

The three-time World Champion also won two matches on the day, but his 6-3 defeat of Terry Jenkins in his final game led to both players being eliminated, with Jenkins taking only one win.

Group Seven on October 30 will see last weekend's PartyPoker.com World Grand Prix champion Michael van Gerwen enter the fray, alongside Northern Ireland's Brendan Dolan and Wales' former World Champion Richie Burnett.

Group Eight on October 31 will see Denis Ovens, Peter Wright and Steve Beaton come into the tournament before the eight group winners - currently Wes Newton, Justin Pipe, Ronnie Baxter, Phil Taylor, Simon Whitlock and Dave Chisnall - return for the big-money Winners Group.

Championship League Darts is screened exclusively live worldwide through LIVEPDC.TV and a series of 50 bookmakers' websites worldwide, with prize money paid at £50 per leg won in the league phase and £100 in each day's play-offs.

Dave Chisnall held off Terry Jenkins' challenge to take a 6-4 win in their Group Six opener. Chisnall took a key break in the opening leg and doubled his lead in the second before Jenkins took out 76 to win the third. Chisnall finished 104 and 106 to win two of the next three - Jenkins finishing 98 in reply - before the St Helens man edged the seventh to move 5-2 up. Jenkins finished 110 and tops to pull back to 5-4, but after the pair traded 180s in the next Chisnall took out tops for the win.
Colin Osborne almost allowed a 5-0 lead to slip against John Part before claiming a 6-4 victory. The 2009 Championship League Darts winner made a superb start, hitting a nerve-settling 180 in the opening leg, finishing double top and ten to move 3-0 up, 90 to win a fourth leg and a superb 136 to win a fifth straight leg. Osborne also missed the bull for a 91 finish to take the match in the next, as double eight began the Canadian's fightback. Three further missed match darts from Osborne allowed Part in on double 14 to win a second leg, and he finished tops and 32 to reduce the gap to one leg. Part also had a chance to force a decider, but missed double top and ten, and Osborne sealed the win on double top.
Jamie Caven came from 4-1 down to take a 6-5 win over Robert Thornton in his first game of the 2012 Championship League Darts. Thornton took the first two legs with double four and double ten before Caven landed a 180 and tops to get off the mark. Double ten and double top put Thornton 4-1 up, before an 86 finish from Caven began his fightback. He posted double ten to pull back to 4-3, and a brace of double 16 finishes moved him ahead for the first time. Thornton produced a brilliant 160 checkout to level and force a decider, but double nine from Caven sealed two great points.
Mark Walsh matched Caven in coming from 4-1 down to take a 6-5 win, as he defeated Paul Nicholson in their opener. Nicholson, the Group Five runner-up, shared the first two legs, finishing 64 before Walsh replied on 86, before winning three in a row to move 4-1 up, with a 78 finish completing that rn. Walsh replied on double 12 and defied a 180 from Nicholson to finish 106 before levelling on double ten. Walsh hit a 180 and a 101 finish to win the ninth leg and move 5-4 up, with Nicholson checking out 119 to force a decider in which the Hertfordshire man posted another 180 and tops for the win.

Second Set of Matches
Ever-present Terry Jenkins edged out Colin Osborne 6-4 to win his first game of Group Six. Osborne took the opener with a 158 finish and the first four legs were shared before Jenkins broke with a 24 finish to move 3-2 up. Osborne levelled with a brilliant 156 checkout to level, and finished 36 to move 4-3 up. Jenkins, though, posted tops to level, finished 61 on double 18 to move 5-4 up and then sealed the win on double four after the Derby ace missed two darts to force a decider.
Dave Chisnall continued his strong start to the day, sweeping past three-time World Champion John Part 6-3. Chisnall opened with a 13-darter and als won the next two legs to lead 3-0 before Part finished 76 and double four to cut the gap to one. A 136 finish from Chisnall stemmed the fightback before he finished tops to lead 5-2, and though Part took out 70, Chisnall landed a 74 checkout to seal the win with a 101.36 average.
Robert Thornton picked up his first win of Group Six, defeatig Paul Nicholson 6-3. The pair shared the first four legs before Thornton hit double 12 in the fifth and secured the first break of the game on double 16 in the next. He missed tops for a 118 finish in the next as Nicholson broke back with a 70 finish on the bull, but the Scot finished double 18 and tops to wrap up the win.
Jamie Caven's strong start continued as he brushed aside Mark Walsh 6-1, averaging 99.74 in an impressive display. Caven started well to finish double eight and four in taking the first two legs, before Walsh took out 161 to get off the mark. Caven took out 91 to win the next and then finished 136 to move 4-1 up, and hit a brace of double eight checkouts to seal the win.

Third Set of Matches
Mark Walsh came from 3-1 down to take his second win of the day, defeating Colin Osborne in a deciding leg. Walsh finished 104 to win the opener, with Osborne levelling with a 142 checkout, breaking in the third and finishing double one to edge a scrappy fourth and lead 3-1. Walsh finished tops, 82 and 122 to win the next three, before Osborne then edged ahead by hitting double five and 87, on the bull. Walsh, though, finished 44 to force a decider and landed a 180, 140 and double top in the final leg to claim the points.
Jamie Caven won his third straight Group Six game, seeing off Terry Jenkins 6-3. Jenkins hit 180s in his first three legs, but found himself 2-1 down before finishing 110 to level. Caven took out double five to edge back ahead in the fifth and then posted double eight and double 12 to move 5-2 up. Double 12 kept Jenkins in the contest, but Caven landed another 180 as he sealed the win.
Paul Nicholson won his first game of the day, defeating John Part 6-3 despite being 3-1 down at one stage. The Canadian great finished 116 and 127 as he won two of the game's first three legs, Nicholson finishing 70 in reply, before double eight put Part 3-1 up. He also missed tops to win the fifth as Nicholson took out double 16 before levelling with a 160 finish. Part missed three darts to edge back ahead as Nicholson finished tops to lead for the first time at 4-3, hit double 16 to move further ahead and punished a trio of misses at double 19 from Part to claim the win with an 89 checkout.
Robert Thornton came from 2-0 down to win 6-4 against Dave Chisnall and claim his second victory of the day. Chisnall made a superb start, finishing 89 and 40 to take the opening two legs and hitting back-to-back 180s at the start of the third. However, he missed out on a potential nine-darter and then missed six darts at double to allow Thornton in to hit back on double 19, before the Scot finished double ten and 36 to hit the front. Finishes of double 16 and 62 put Chisnall 4-3 up, but he was punished for misses in the next as Thornton levelled on double four. Thornton then took out double five to lead 5-4 and tops to seal the win.

Fourth Set of Matches
Mark Walsh won his third game of the day, defeating Terry Jenkins 6-4. Walsh edged the opening leg on double ten before Jenking took out 100 to level, but Walsh broke again in the third and took out 103 to lead 3-1. Tops saw Jenkins hit back, but finishes of 120 and 101 put Walsh a leg away from the win. Jenkins hit double ten in successive legs to stay in the hunt, but Walsh hit the same bed to seal the win.
Jamie Caven's unbeaten run continued with a 6-3 win over Derby rival Colin Osborne. Caven hit finishes of 108, 106 and 112 to win four of the first five legs, with Osborne taking out 88 in reply in leg three. Osborne finished tops to win his second leg, and after Caven finished double 13 he took out 74 to pull back to 5-3, but a 112 checkout from Caven sealed his win with a fourth ton-plus checkout.

A pair of double ten finishes put Chisnall ahead before Nicholson hit back with an 80 checkout, only to then miss three darts at double 18 to level, as Chisnall took out 86 and double four to move 4-1 up. Nicholson took the next, but Chisnall hit a timely 180 to leave 81 as he moved 5-2 up and landed double ten for the points.
John Part picked up his maiden Group Six victory as he defeated Robert Thornton 6-4. Part took thre of the first four legs to tke command of the game, before Thornton followed a 180 with a 68 finish to win the fifth. Finishes of double eight and double six gave Part two of the next three as he moved 5-3 up, and although Thornton took out tops the Canadian sealed the win in the next.

Fifth Set of Matches
Mark Walsh came from 3-0 down to defeat John Part 6-4 and claim his fourth win of the day. Part took out double 16, 150 and double ten to win the first three legs of the game, before double ten get Walsh off the mark. Walsh's accuracy on tops helped him to take the next three before double two put him 5-3 up. Part finished double eight to hit back, but paid for failing to hit his doubles to force the decider as Walsh hit double eight to seal the win.
Robert Thornton moved onto six points in the league table, defeating Terry Jenkins 6-4. The pair shared the game's first four legs before Thornton broke twice in a run of four successive legs to put himself 5-2 up. Jenkins finished 60 and 69 to cut the gap to one leg, but paid for missed doubles in the next as Thornton finished double ten for the win.
Dave Chisnall inflicted Jamie Caven's first defeat of the day with a 6-5 win over the previously unbeaten Derby ace. Caven's superb form continued as he took out 134 in the opening leg and hit 180s in the next two as he moved 3-0 up. Chisnall finished double four and double 16 to cut the gap to one leg, and although Caven won a fourth the St Helens man then finished double two and double eight to level at four -all. A 70 finish moved Caven 5-4 up, but he wired double 18 for a 156 finish for the match as Chisnall finished double 14 to force a decider, before landing two 180s and double top to edge to the win.
Colin Osborne moved to within two points of the top four with a 6-4 win over Paul Nicholson. Nicholson finished 101 for the opener before Osborne took out 115 to level, and the Derby man also took the third to lead 2-1. Nicholson edged the next two and, after Osborne took leg six with a 121 finish, he took the seventh to move 4-3 up. Osborne, though, punished Nicholson's misses to level in the eighth, posted double nine to lead 5-4 and finished double six to claim the win, after his opponent missed the bull for a 164 finish which would have forced a decider.

Sixth Set of Matches
Colin Osborne joined Robert Thornton on six points with a 6-3 win over the Scot in their battle for a top four spot. The first four legs were shared before Osborne broke in the fifth on double 16 - after the pair had missed a double to take out 122 - before hitting double eight to move 4-2 up. Thornton hit a 180 in winning the seventh, but missed a dart to level as Osborne finished double 16 and then finished 76 for the match.
Dave Chisnall secured his semi-final place for a fourth successive group, defeating Mark Walsh 6-3. After the pair shared the opening two legs, Chisnall took the next four legs to move 5-1 up, hitting a 109 finish in the process, before Walsh took out 41 and 83 to hit back to 5-3. The Hertfordshire ace, though, missed the bull to continue the fightback, and Chisnall took out 92 on double 16 for the win.
Jamie Caven sealed his semi-final spot with a fifth victory of the day to see off John Part 6-4, leaving the Canadian needing victory in his final game to avoid elimination. Caven hit a 180 in the opening leg and won the first two to lead before Part hit back with double eight and a 74 finish to level. Caven produced a fine 139 checkout to move back ahead before finishing 68 on the bull to lead 4-2. The next two were shared before Part finished 100 to pull back to 5-4, but he missed tops to force a decidrer and Caven sealed the win on double five.
Paul Nicholson improved his chances of avoiding elimination with a key second win of the day, defeating Terry Jenkins 6-3. The pair shared the first four legs, which included a showpiece 100 finish from Jenkins of single 20 and two double tops with Nicholson waiting on a double before the Australian World Cup star levelled with a 76 finish. He then took out 64 and 57 to lead 4-2, and although double eight gave Jenkins the seventh - after the pair traded 180s - Nicholson took the next two for his second win of Group Six.

Final Set of Matches
Jamie Caven ended the league phase with his sixth victory, with the defeat leaving Paul Nicholson in danger of elimination. Caven took out 62 and 89 to win two of the first three, before Nicholson finished 90, double ten and double 19 to move 4-2 up. Caven finished tops in the next two to level and then took out 73 to follow a 177 as he moved ahead 5-4, before sealing the win in the next.
Robert Thornton defeats Mark Walsh 6-3 to secure a Play-Off place, leaving Walsh hoping that Colin Osborne fails to defeat Dave Chisnall in their final game if he is to hang on to fourth. Thornton took out
121 and tops to win the first two legs, before Walsh finished tops and double 12 to level. Thornton, though, took the next three to move 5-2 up, and although Walsh took the eighth after the pair traded 180s, Thornton finished 67 to seal the win.
John Part defeated Terry Jenkins 6-3 in their final league game - but both suffer elimination from the event as only a 6-2 or better result for either player would have been enough to stay in the event. A tight first four legs saw the players locked at two-all after four breaks of throw, with Part then taking the fifth against the throw and then holding with a 66 finish to move 4-2 up. He also missed double 16 for a 109 finish in the seventh as Jenkins finished double 16 to win his third leg. Part took out double ten and double 16 in the next two to seal the win, but it was ultimately in vain as the pair were eliminated.
Dave Chisnall came from 2-0 down to defeat Colin Osborne 6-2, meaning that the 2009 champion misses out on a semi-final spot. Osborne, needing to win the game to finish in the top four, took the first two legs before Chisnall took out double four in the next. Osborne left himself a double with a 165 score in the fourth, but double 16 saw Chisnall level before he took the next to lead, and he won the next three without reply to seal the win as he finishes second in the table and reaches the play-offs for a fourth successive group.

Semi-Finals
Mark Walsh powered past table-topper Jamie Caven 6-1 to win through to the Group Six final. Finishes of double ten and 106 in the first two legs put Walsh in command, and although Caven took the third another quick-fire double from Walsh put him 4-1 up. Walsh took the sixth to move 5-1 up, before finishing double eight to progress to the final.
Dave Chisnall produced a brilliant display to storm into the final, seeing off Robert Thornton 6-1. Chisnall hit 180s in the first two legs as he took command, with Thornton finishing 74 in the third but being punished for missing doubles to level as double ten put Chisnall 3-1 up. Double four gave Chisnall a three-leg lead, and after the pair traded 180s in the next an 81 finish from Chisnall moved him a leg away from the win. He then hit three 140s to be first to a finish, and took out double six to move into the decider with a 105.55 average.
