Ladbrokes Charity Challenge Update

FRIDAY'S flurry of 180s at the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship has increased the chances of a record-breaking number of maximums at the event to aid Haven House's Ladbrokes Charity Challenge.

Ladbrokes will donate £10 per 180 hit during this year's World Championship to Haven House Children's Hospice, the PDC's official charity - and have pledged to double the amount should the previous tournament record of 588 be broken.

In the preliminary and first rounds, a total of 190 maximums were scored, which was down from 234 in the previous year.

However, Friday's opening six second round games saw an amazing 97 180s hit, including 25 in the thriller between Gary Anderson and John Bowles, with the Scot hitting 19 on his own.

Robert Thornton picked up 13 in his win over Paul Nicholson, while Daryl Gurney hit 11 in his defeat to Dave Chisnall, who landed ten of his own in a high-scoring day.

Last year's second round total of 153 is expected to be passed during the remaining games on Saturday and Sunday.
