Double Desire For Newton

WES NEWTON is looking to tighten up his finishing ahead of Thursday's McCoy's Premier League Darts clash with Raymond van Barneveld.

Newton lost out 7-4 to James Wade on his Premier League Darts debut in Belfast last week, missing 19 darts at a double in the contest.

The Fleetwood ace will play van Barneveld at the AECC in Aberdeen on Thursday, and admits he has been working hard on his doubles over the past week.

"It was a great experience last week but I was a bit gutted, not so much to lose but with how I lost," said Newton. "I've been practising hard on my doubles and hopefully I can put it right this week.

"I gave myself plenty of chances so I know my scoring's good and I need to tighten up on my doubles.

"Maybe I was trying too hard to get off to a good start. I wanted to get off with a win so much but I've got my debut out of the way now and I'll get used to playing each week now."

Van Barneveld was a 7-4 winner in his opener against Gary Anderson, as the Grand Slam of Darts champion averaged 102 in an impressive performance.

"It's going to be a really tough game because Raymond probably played the best out of everyone last week, but there are no easy matches in the Premier League," added Newton.

"I've got to get my head down and hopefully I can go up there and play some good darts."
