Lewis Aims For Crawley Boost

ADRIAN LEWIS is looking to use the Speedy Services UK Open Qualifiers in Crawley this weekend to aid his bid to return to top form.

The two-time World Champion sits at the foot of the McCoy's Premier League Darts table after suffering three successive defeats this season, with Thursday's defeat to James Wade following previous losses against Simon Whitlock and Phil Taylor.

The world number two has recently changed to using a slightly different design of dart - having adjusted the balance of his dart - in a bid to regain the form which saw him hit a nine-dart finish in winning his first World Championship title in 2011.

With a must-win clash against basement rival Wes Newton looming in the Premier League next Thursday, Lewis hopes that this weekend's double-header of UK Open Qualifiers in Crawley can provide him with the form and confidence boost he needs.

"Everybody expects a lot of me, and that's understandable," said Lewis. "I'm putting the hard work in but a lot of my darts are going on the wire and it's just not happening for me.

"James took his chances really well on Thursday night and deserved to win but it's so frustrating for me at the minute because I'm expecting my best darts to come out.

"Even though I won the World Championship [in 2012] I was only at 60 percent, and it's been 18 months where I've not been at my best.

"I look at myself and think that if I won the World Championship at 60 percent, then when I'm at 100 percent they can't touch me.

"I can't be disheartened and I've got to get on with it. Crawley will help me massively because I only got my new darts last Tuesday, so playing in the floor tournaments will sharpen me up."
