Young Pair Set For World Youth Final

THE destiny of the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship will be decided on Thursday night as Ricky Evans takes on Michael Smith at The O2 in London.

The pair will take to the stage during the McCoy's Premier League Darts Play-Offs, where they will do battle over the best of 11 legs to succeed Arron Monk and James Hubbard as the World Youth Champion.

They secured their spot in the final when the Last 64 of the event was staged at the Barnsley Metrodome in March, when Smith hit a brilliant nine-dart finish on his way to the last two.

The St Helens youngster - who is managed and mentored by former Premier League champion Gary Anderson - lost only one leg in his first four games of the event, whitewashing Brandon Walsh, George Killington and Dean Finn and only dropping a leg against Samuel Head after he had opened their game with a nine-darter!

Smith then defeated County Durham's emerging Adam Hunt 6-3 in the semis as he booked his place in the final.

Kettering's Evans' run to the decider began with wins over Canada's Shaun Narain and Australia's Harley Kemp before he overcame Chris Aubrey and Sam Hamilton.

He then sealed his spot against Smith with a 6-4 win over 2011 World Youth Champion Arron Monk in the semis.

Evans, 22, won a Tour Card at the start of the year but admits that the chance to play in front of 10,000 fans during the McCoy's Premier League Darts Play-Offs will be the biggest night of his career.

"Michael is going to be very tough to beat but everyone is beatable," Evans told the Northamptonshire Telegraph. "If you go up there and get it right then there is not much anyone can do about it.

"It is going to be hard but even if I lose, I will still probably be happier than him. Everyone said the final would be between him and Arron Monk, and for me to ruin that was great!

"I know I can play, he knows I can play. It is going to be a matter of dealing with the surroundings. That is going to be as hard as playing the game itself."
