In Memory: Phill Nixon

THE Professional Darts Corporation sends its condolences to the family of Phill Nixon, who passed away on Friday following his battle against cancer.

The 57-year-old from Ferryhill, County Durham, rose to fame with his memorable comeback in the 2007 Lakeside Championship final, as he came from 6-0 down to level with Martin Adams before losing out in the deciding set.

Phill went on to compete twice in the Grand Slam of Darts, in 2007 and 2008, showing his never-say die spirit in only missing out in the group stage in the opening year.

A player with vast experience with the County Durham side who also played for England on the BDO circuit, his final competitive appearance last year saw Phill reach the World Masters quarter-finals.

Phill was recently the guest of honour at a specially-arranged fundraising night at Ferryhill WMC, which was attended by a host of top darts players and officials.
