BetVictor World Matchplay Field

THE field for the BetVictor World Matchplay has been confirmed, following the completion of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy.

The PDC's second oldest major will enjoy it's 21st staging at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool from July 19-27, when 32 players will compete for the prestigious title.

The top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit qualify by right to compete in Blackpool, and are seeded for the first round where they are drawn against the 16 ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers.

World Champion Michael van Gerwen will be the top seed after taking over at the top of the PDC Order of Merit this year, with reigning champion Phil Taylor the second seed as he bids to win an incredible seventh successive World Matchplay title.

Adrian Lewis and Simon Whitlock complete the top four seeds, with 2007 Blackpool champion James Wade - the only other former World Matchplay winner in the field this year - seeded fifth following his success in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy on Sunday.

Ian White held on to his place inside the PDC's top 16 ahead of Kim Huybrechts, who is amongst the ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers.

Steve Beaton - Sunday's runner-up to Wade in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy - tops the ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers, with last week's Austrian Darts Open champion Vincent van der Voort also returning to the Blackpool stage.

Former World Matchplay finalists Terry Jenkins, Ronnie Baxter and Richie Burnett are also amongst the qualifiers, while 2014 Lakeside Champion Stephen Bunting will make his Winter Gardens debut following a superb six months since joining the PDC circuit.

Andrew Gilding, a rising star of the circuit in 2014, will also be making his first World Matchplay appearance, while Darren Webster's strong year sees him compete in Blackpool for the first time since 2005.

The draw for the BetVictor World Matchplay will be made on Monday June 30, live from Gibraltar on the BetVictor website at 7am UK time - watch live at http://www.betvictor.com/sports/en/content/world-matchplay-live-draw.
