REIGNING HappyBet European Darts Grand Prix Champion Kim Huybrechts made the perfect start to the defence of his title as he beat Martin Schindler 6-0.
It was a professional performance from the Belgian who only needed an average of 92 to whitewash his opponent.
Huybrechts, who was a finalist in Riesa and a semi-finalist last week in Muelheim sets up a last 16 clash with Alan Norris who also claimed a 6-0 victory earlier in the day.
Norris was comfortable throughout averaging 95 and hitting almost 50% of his attempts at doubles against Nathan Aspinall.
The Englishman ended the game is style, wrapping up the victory by taking out 80 with back-to-back double twenties.
It was Mensur Suljovic though, who put in the performance of day two.
The Austrian averaged 108, hit 60% of his doubles and took out three ton plus finishes as he brushed aside Mick McGowan in a 6-2 win.
Suljovic who won his first PDC title in Riesa will face Gerwyn Price who beat Max Hopp 6-3 in front of a noisy German crowd at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen.
Price had finishes of 72, 74 and 140 and hit five of his first six attempts at doubles in the match and was in control throughout.
World number one Michael van Gerwen didn’t have it all his own way as he beat Darren Webster 6-4.
Last weeks winner in Muelheim, van Gerwen came out the blocks flying, averaging 118 after four legs.
Webster kept with the Dutchman though forcing him to throw for the match at 5-4, where MVG took out 138 to set up a match with Steve Beaton who survived a late comeback from Alan Tabern.
Beaton raced in to a 5-0 lead averaging over 100 before Tabern rallied to reduce the gap to just two legs.
Tabern missed the bull in the ninth leg to break the Beaton throw before the 52 year-old secured the a 6-3 win.
The number two seed Peter Wright cruised in to the last 16 with a 6-1 victory over Brendan Dolan.
Wright averaged 94 and hit over 50% of his attempts at doubles as he set up an encounter with Joe Cullen who overcame Robbie Green with a 6-1 win.
The number three seed crashed out at the second round stage as James Wilson beat Ian White.
Wilson raced in to a 3-0 lead before a fightback, including a 170 finish in leg six gave White hope.
Wilson then strung another three leg burst together to seal a spot in the last 16, where he will face Raymond van Barneveld who kept his hopes of qualifying for the European Championship alive with a dramatic 6-5 win over Simon Whitlock.
The match looked to be going Whitlock’s way but at 5-4 ‘The Wizard’ missed a shot at double seven for the match.
The real drama came in the deciding leg though, when with Whitlock sat on 32 for the match, the 5-time Champion of the World took out 141 to move in to the last 16.
Jonny Clayton made light work of tenth seed Jelle Klaasen in the first match of the evening session of day two of the HappyBet European Darts Grand Prix.
The Welshman was ruthless on the doubles, hitting six out of seven attempts and averaged 102 as he cruised to a 6-1 victory.
Clayton will face James Wade in the last 16 who earlier in the day had to come back from 4-2 down against Mark Frost to secure 6-4 and confirm his place in the third round.
Wade, who has won once on the European Tour already this year, looked in trouble at 4-2 down. Frost then missed chances to extend his lead allowing Wade to break the throw.
The 33 year-old only managed 27% on doubles but Frost was unable to punish Wade, missing opportunities at crucial moments.
Benito van de Pas broke at the crucial moment to secure his place in the last 16 with a 6-5 victory over Cristo Reyes.
With the pair locked at 5-5 the number six seed took advantage of some sloppy play from Reyes to set up a clash with Joe Murnan, who also needed a final leg decider against Terry Jenkins to seal the win.
