New Guinness World Record For Smith!

THE world's top eight darts players battled it out to set a new Guinness World Records title at the Unibet Champions League of Darts - with Michael Smith left celebrating as he set a high score of 581 points in a minute.

The "Highest Darts Score In A Minute" record benchmark score of 550 was set by Guinness World Records, with no-one previously able to beat this score, yet it was smashed twice in a matter of moments in Cardiff ahead of the Champions League.

With the independent adjudicator from Guinness World Records watching on and ensuring the record attempt met their official standards, Adrian Lewis first set a new score of 559, before it was them smashed by Smith's 581 total.

An elated Smith said: "I'm enormously proud of this achievement!

"It's amazing to think I could be regarded in the same breath as some of the Guinness World Record holders out there – hopefully I can use this success and take it forward to the Unibet Champions League of Darts this weekend."

The Unibet Champions League of Darts sees the world's top eights players battle it out over two days for a top prize of £100,000 and is televised live on BBC Sport on September 24-25.
