Liu Wins Opening Chinese Event

Yuanjun Liu

YUANJUN LIU won the first stage of the 2017 Professional Darts China circuit, defeating Xiaochen Zong 2-1 in the final in Xiamen.

Following the success of the inaugural year of ranking events in China in 2016, this year's circuit includes both professional and amateur tier events.

The first ranking event of the year saw Liu - the top-ranked player in 2016 and the runner-up to Qiang Sun in the World Championship qualifier - take victory in Xiamen.

After whitewashing Xuejun Li in the last 16, Liu then defeated Qiugang Su and Hao Li in straight sets to reach the final, where he edged out 2016 World Youth Championship qualifier Zong 2-1 (3-2, 2-3, 3-1).

In the B Flights event, Shuyong Mo defeated Shaobin Miao 3-1 in the final, with Xuejun Li and Xianmi Lin reaching the semi-finals.

The first three ranking events of the 2017 season will count towards qualification for 40 players to the World Cup of Darts Qualifier, alongside four Womens players and four Youth Players to make a 48-player knockout for two spots in June's World Cup.
