MICHAEL VAN GERWEN got back to winning ways on the PDC ProTour with victory over Peter Wright in the Players Championship Six final, as Ricky Williams celebrated his first competitive nine-darter in Milton Keynes.
World Champion Van Gerwen had lost out to Wright in last weekend's HappyBet German Darts Championship final, and was also a semi-final loser in Saturday's Players Championship five to Adrian Lewis.
However, the Dutchman went all the way to the £10,000 top prize with an unrivalled day at Arena MK - with none of his seven opponents winning more thn three legs in a game.
Wins over Mickey Mansell, Andy Jenkins, Ron Meulenkamp and Cristo Reyes moved Van Gerwen into the quarter-finals, where he saw off Kim Huybrechts with a 6-2 scoreline.
He then dropped only one leg in a semi-final win over Mervyn King before repeating the scoreline in the final against Wright.
Wright's only leg came from a 136 checkout, but he had no answer as Van Gerwen powered home a 129 checkout using the treble 19 and two double 18s combination, before securing the win with a 153 finish.
Wright picked up £6,000 as runner-up as he continued his strong run of form this year, defeating Terry Roach, Jimmy Hendriks and David Pallett in his early games before whitewashing Steve Beaton in the last 16.
He then overcame both Richard North and Mensur Suljovic with 6-2 wins to book his place in the final, before coming unstuck against the world number one.
Suljovic's run to the semi-finals was his best performance since he was the runner-up in October's Unibet European Championship, as he knocked out world number two Gary Anderson and in-form Australian Simon Whitlock on the day.
He was joined in the last four by Mervyn King, a Players Championship runner-up last month who overcame the likes of Raymond van Barneveld, Kevin Painter and Darren Webster on the day.
Hampshire-based North, a PDC Tour Card winner at Qualifying School in January, reached his second successive Players Championship quarter-final to cap a strong weekend, before losing out to Wright.
He was joined in the last eight by Whitlock, Van Barneveld and Huybrechts, who returned to competition in Milton Keynes after missing Thursday's Betway Premier League swansong to be with his mother during her final hours.
Sunday's tournament also saw Ricky Williams land his first competitive nine-dart finish, although the achievement came during a first round defeat to Jeffrey de Graaf.
The next Players Championship double-header will be held on April 8-9 at the Barnsley Metrodome, where a further £150,000 in prize money will be on offer across the two days.
