BetVictor World Matchplay Odds Update

Phil Taylor - BetVictor World Matchplay (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

PHIL TAYLOR is an unprecedented 20/1 with sponsors BetVictor as he bids to win an amazing 16th World Matchplay at the Winter Gardens later this month.

Legendary star Taylor will make his final World Matchplay appearance ahead of his impending retirement when he competes in Blackpool from July 22-30.

Taylor has won the World Matchplay an incredible 15 times in 23 events since 1994, and has drawn Welshman Gerwyn Price in the first round.

However, with World Champion Michael van Gerwen bidding to claim a third successive World Matchplay title in this year's event and both Gary Anderson and Peter Wright having won televised events this year, Taylor is at his longest odds ever to claim glory in Blackpool.

Sponsors BetVictor make Taylor 20/1 to lift the World Matchplay trophy for one final time, with Van Gerwen the 5/4 favourite, Anderson a 9/2 chance and Wright 11/2.

"It is well documented that this will be Phil's last World Matchplay, but will there be one last hurrah from The Power in Blackpool in a tournament he has made his own," said BetVictor spokesman Charlie McCann.

"Michael van Gerwen is looking for his own hat-trick in Blackpool but all eyes will be on The Power.

"We have a number of specials on the great man, including 7/1 that he hits what would be a record third nine-dart finish on the famous and iconic Winter Gardens stage."

Following the draw, world number two Anderson saw his odds cut from 5/1 to 9/2 as he searches for his first World Matchplay triumph.
