Van Gerwen Odds-On In Cardiff

Michael van Gerwen - Unibet Champions League of Darts (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN is the odds-on favourite to win the 2017 Unibet Champions League of Darts in Cardiff this coming weekend.

The Dutchman was the runner-up in the inaugural Champions League of Darts 12 months ago, and having since won his second World Championship title travels to the Motorpoint Arena in fine form.

Van Gerwen has won both European Tour events held in the past fortnight to mark his return from a month's break in August - when wife Daphne gave birth to their daughter Zoe - with a ten-game unbeaten run.

Sponsors Unibet make Van Gerwen an odds-on favourite on three fronts going into the BBC-televised event:
41/50 to claim the £100,000 title on Sunday night
1/6 to defeat Raymond van Barneveld in Saturday afternoon's opening group matches
11/20 to win Group A

Reigning Champions League winner Phil Taylor is 6/1 to retain the title this coming weekend and 11/4 to win Group A, with rivals Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld both 17/2 to dominate the group stage.

World number two Gary Anderson is the 9/2 second favourite to win the tournament, and 6/5 to claim victory in Group B ahead of Peter Wright (13/8), Dave Chisnall (5/1) and Mensur Suljovic (17/2).
