Oreshkin & Alcinas Reach World Championship

Aleksandr Oreshkin (EADC)

ALEKSANDR ORESHKIN and Antonio Alcinas have won places in the William Hill World Darts Championship as the international qualifiers continued over the weekend.

Oreshkin, who previously played at Alexandra Palace two years ago, won the EADC Qualifier on Sunday, defeating Boris Koltsov in the final.

The left-hander was a narrow 6-5 winner against both Roman Obukhov in the quarter-finals and Maxim Belov in the semi-finals, before seeing off Koltsov by a 3-1 sets scoreline in the decider.

A two-time World Cup representative alongside Koltsov for Russia, in 2016 and 2017, Oreshkin defeated Paul Lim in the preliminary round on his previous World Championship appearance, and took Mervyn King all the way to a deciding set in their first round tie.

Spanish ace Alcinas will end a six-year absence from the World Championship stage in December, after winning through a field of over 200 entries in the Southern Europe Qualifier in Avila.

Alcinas previously competed in the 2011 and 2012 World Championships and is an ever-present in the World Cup, and since winning back his PDC Tour Card in January has qualified for the UK Open before reaching a semi-final and a quarter-final in Players Championships in the past month.

The 38-year-old had to battle hard in the latter stages of the qualifier, seeing off Jose Sousa 6-4 in the quarter-finals before being taken to a deciding 11th leg by Martin Marti and Jesús Noguera Perea.

Alcinas raced into a 4-0 lead in his semi-final with Marti before missing double 12 for a nine-dart finish - returning to land a ten-darter only to see his opponent then fight back to level before missing a match dart to complete a remarkable comeback as his rival finally closed out the win.

Last year's Southern Europe Qualifier, Greece's John Michael, lost out in the last 16 of the event.

The international qualifiers for the William Hill World Darts Championship continue on October 28 with both the DPA Oceanic Masters and the North & East Asia Qualifier.
