STEVE LENNON secured his first Alexandra Palace success with a 3-0 whitewash of Australia's James Bailey in the first round of the 2018/19 William Hill World Darts Championship.

Lennon, who reached May's Dutch Darts Championship Final, continued his rise toward the world's top 32 with a solid display.

The opening set saw the Irish number one cruise to a 3-1 success, before a 112 checkout helped him double his lead in the second which went to a last-leg decider.

Lennon took the final set 3-1 to set up a clash with Alan Norris in the second round.
