Suljovic: 'I could be World Champion'

Mensur Suljovic (PDC)

Mensur Suljovic is dreaming of becoming a World Champion after winning the Austrian Darts Championship in Vienna on Sunday.

Suljovic became the first Austrian player to win a PDC event in Austria thanks to a dramatic 8-7 victory over Michael van Gerwen, his first ever victory over the Dutchman in a final.

Having secured his first title of 2019, and a sixth PDC title in total, the Austrian number one is already looking ahead to Alexandra Palace at the end of the year.

"This is absolutely the biggest moment in my career, I'm so happy," said world number nine Suljovic.

"After this win is the first time I have thought maybe I could be World Champion.

"There was pressure to play well in Vienna in front of the best crowd in the world.

"They gave me a push every time. When I was 6-3 down in the final, the crowd pushed me to come back and win the game."

Suljovic will return to European Tour action at this weekend's European Darts Matchplay in Mannheim, Germany, with all the action shown on video.pdc.tv from Friday to Sunday.
