Gurney reaches £20k target for Cystic Fibrosis charity

Daryl Gurney (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

Daryl Gurney has reached his £20,000 fundraising target for the Cystic Fibrosis Care charity following his head shave at the Paddy Power Champions League of Darts.

Gurney pledged to lose his spiked locks if over £10,000 was raised for the charity, having embarked on the fundraising event in memory of best friend Aaron McMenamin, who passed away in 2017.

After pre-event donations passed the £10,000 mark, Gurney had his head shaved by Paddy Power in Leicester but donations have continued to pour in after the shave.

People can still donate via JustGiving.

"It's brilliant to reach the target, I want to thank everyone who contributed whether it was 50p or thousands of pounds," said Gurney.

"All the money raised is going to a great cause in memory of my best friend who dies aged just 29 and his sister who passed away six months earlier aged 24.

"The funds raised will help families coping with Cystic Fibrosis which can be a real struggle.

"One day when I turn up to the charity with a big cheque I'm sure it will put a big smile on peoples' faces.

"My hair is starting to grow back which I'm pleased about, I'm definitely not keeping it this short!"
