All Covid-19 tests negative at Betfred World Matchplay

Simon Whitlock - Betfred World Matchplay (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

All players competing in the 2020 Betfred World Matchplay have tested negative for coronavirus, meaning that there will be no changes to the tournament's schedule.

With the prestigious event being held behind closed doors in Milton Keynes this week, all players, staff, officials and guests were subject to a Covid-19 test on arrival at the Marshall Arena and held in quarantine until the results were confirmed.

All 98 tests conducted have returned a negative result, and stand-by players Stephen Bunting and Ryan Searle will not now be required to replace any player who tested positive.

The Betfred World Matchplay began on Saturday July 18 and will continue through to the final on Sunday July 26, with the tournament being staged under government-approved guidelines.

The first round continues with a further five matches on Monday evening, before Nathan Aspinall's tie with Dimitri Van den Bergh on Tuesday concludes the last 32 stage.
