Aspinall happy to revive 'underdog' tag on Play-Offs night

Peter Wright, Nathan Aspinall

Nathan Aspinall is happy to go back to being the 'underdog' at tonight's Unibet Premier League Play-Offs in Coventry.

Aspinall, who shot to fame by winning the UK Open as a rank outsider in March 2019, has since flourished into one of the world's elite and earned himself a Play-Off spot in his debut Premier League campaign.

But the 29-year-old believes he can go under the radar tonight at the Ricoh Arena as he goes up against Peter Wright in the semi-finals, with the World Champion having made it clear of his expectations to take home the title.

"It's quite nice to go into a game not being the favourite. I've gone from being an outsider against everyone to now being third or fourth favourite to win every tournament," said Aspinall.

"So it's nice to go into an event where everyone isn't expecting me to win for once.

"All the pressure's on Peter. He thinks he's won this title already so it's on him to go out there and back it up.

"Peter knows me well and he knows he shouldn't write me off because it only makes me more determined.

"He is the World Champion and he's probably earned the right to be so confident but I'm there to shoot him down.

"He's probably worried. He knows how good I am and he knows I've beaten him many times in big TV matches.

"I know if I play my game I can take the game to him and get a result. I will bring my 'A game', rest assured."

Live coverage of Unibet Premier League Play-Offs will be shown on Sky Sports, as well as through the PDC's international broadcast partners including RTL7 and DAZN and for PDCTV Rest of the World Subscribers.
