Table-topper Aspinall credits 'happy home life' for return to form

Nathan Aspinall has credited a happy home life for a return to form which has seen him top the Unibet Premier League table at the conclusion of the first phase.

Despite coming runner-up in last year's tournament, Aspinall was not among the bookies favourites for the title coming into his second Premier League campaign following a below-par run of results.

However, the 29-year-old has re-captured the type of form that saw him win two TV titles in the opening nine nights of the season, with his most recent victory seeing him defeat Gary Anderson 7-2 with a 102.45 average.

"Being happy away from the dartboard is massive," Aspinall explained. "You've got to have the whole package.

"A lot of people think we just play darts and that's our life, but that isn't the case.

"If you're happy at home and you've got the right people around you in terms of management team, friends and family then it allows you to perform on the oche.

"My confidence is back and I'm playing well again. Every time I go on that stage I think I'm going to win, I'm enjoying myself in this Premier League."

Aspinall has tasted defeat just once in this Premier League campaign, racking up five victories and two draws in his last seven outings.

His latest win came against two-time Premier League champion Anderson, a player Aspinall makes no apologies for hiding his admiration for.

"That was a very tough game," Aspinall reflected. "Gary knows how much I look up to him, he was always my favourite player growing up.

"But I had a job to do tonight. It's a great result and it gives my leg-difference a boost as well.

"There's still a long way to go; the table is so tight but that win gives me a bit of breathing space.

"As long as I'm in the top four that's all I want and to give myself a chance come finals night."

Aspinall is now in Germany ahead of Players Championship events 9-12 (PDC Super Series 3), which will take place at the H+ Hotel, Niedernhausen from April 24-27.

The third Super Series of Players Championship events in 2021 will be broadcast live on PDCTV - subscription options will include Day and Event Passes.
