Stars of the Cazoo Premier League, led by reigning champion Jonny Clayton and world number one Gerwyn Price, prepared for the start of this year's event in Cardiff with a reception at the Welsh Parliament on Wednesday.

The new-look Cazoo Premier League will begin at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena on Thursday, with the eight-player field competing in a mini-event on the first of 17 weeks in the £1 million tournament.

The competitors launched this year's event with a visit to Cardiff's Senedd Cymru building, the home of the Welsh Parliament as they were officially welcomed to Wales.

James Evans MS and Jack Sargeant MS led a tour of the Senedd building for the players, who also enjoyed photographs with other Members during the visit.

Speaking in Wednesday's Plenary, James Evans MS officially welcomed the tournament to Cardiff in a statement to the Chamber.

Evans said: "I was honoured to host the best darts players in the world to our Parliament this afternoon as they prepare for the first night of the Premier League darts in Cardiff tomorrow.

"As a keen darts player myself, it was great to host this alongside my friend, colleague, darts player and darts fan Jack "The Beard to be Feared" Sargeant.

"These players who visited our Parliament included Wales' very own world number one Gerwyn Price and last year's Premier League champion Jonny Clayton, and I'm sure the whole Senedd wishes the Welsh boys well in the Premier League this year.

"Wales is leading the way on the global darts scene and we should all be extremely proud of the players who inspire millions of people on a daily basis around the world.

"I look forward to welcoming the Professional Darts Corporation and the players back to the Senedd in the future to showcase their incredible talents here in our home, the Welsh Parliament."

The visit was also welcomed on social media by Senedd Members.
