Van Gerwen out to dominate Premier League ahead of hat-trick bid

Michael van Gerwen

Michael Van Gerwen is out to reassert his dominance in the Cazoo Premier League as he looks to win a third consecutive league phase night on Night Six in Nottingham on Thursday.

Van Gerwen went top of the table last Thursday as he became the first player in this year's Premier League to have won back-to-back nights as he defeated Michael Smith in the Night Five final.

After the first four nights saw a new winner each week, Van Gerwen is looking to recapture the dominance which saw him top the league phase every year from 2013-2019.

“I see myself top of the table, it’s been a while since I’ve been top of the table of any ranking,” Van Gerwen told SkySports.

“I feel good, I feel comfortable and I felt it on the stage.

“I’m starting to get somewhere; my form is starting to get there and when you don’t show it it hurts.

“I know what I’m capable of, I can show everything but sometimes you need to take a little bit of time.”

“I’m not doing too bad in the Premier League and the rest will come automatically after this.”

The 2022 Cazoo Premier League heads to the Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham this Thursday for Night Six as Van Gerwen takes on Gerwyn Price, who will be looking to bounce back after his withdrawal last week.

The other quarter-finals will see Michael Smith against James Wade, Gary Anderson takes on Jonny Clayton, whilst Joe Cullen looks to exact revenge on Peter Wright for his UK Open defeat.

The Cazoo Premier League is being broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK, through the PDC's worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and Viaplay, and n PDCTV for Rest of the World Subscribers (excluding UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria & Switzerland).
