Larry Butler rolled back the years to seal a stunning victory on the third weekend of Championship Darts Corporation action in Indiana.

North America’s top stars locked horns across two days of competition in Brownsburg, and Butler stole the headlines with victory in the third and final event of the weekend.

The 65-year-old defeated American number one Danny Baggish 7-3 in Sunday’s showpiece to clinch a record-breaking ninth CDC title, and his first since 2017.

Butler, the winner of the inaugural World Matchplay in 1994, kicked off his campaign with deciding-leg wins over Michael Nguyen and Jeff Springer, before easing past Jason Brandon in the last eight.

The North American icon whitewashed Canada’s John Norman Jr 7-0 in the semi-finals, before toppling Baggish in convincing style to seal Event Nine glory.

Jacob Taylor kicked off the weekend’s proceedings with Event Seven success on Saturday, dispatching an impressive Alex Spellman to scoop his second CDC title of the campaign.

Taylor defeated former UK Open finalist Gary Mawson, US Darts Masters qualifier Doug Boehm and Baggish en route to the final, before recording a 7-2 win over Spellman, who saw off Butler in the semi-finals.

Spellman maintained his fine form in Event Eight, averaging 101.12 in an epic last eight win over Baggish, but he was denied by an in-form David Cameron, who closed out a 7-3 victory to land his third CDC title of 2022.

The fourth weekend of Championship Darts Corporation action will be held in Hamilton, Ontario next month, with Events 10-12 taking place from September 9-11.
