Trailblazer Sherrock becomes first woman to hit a PDC nine-darter

Fallon Sherrock (PDC)

Fallon Sherrock created another slice of darting history in Hildesheim on Saturday, after becoming the first woman to hit a nine-dart finish in a PDC event.

Sherrock achieved perfection in Event Nine on the Winmau Challenge Tour, which saw its second weekend of action conclude with another double-header at Halle 39.

Ron Meulenkamp and Dragutin Horvat picked up titles in Hildesheim, but Sherrock shared the headlines, producing a sensational nine-darter in the third leg of her opening round tie against Marco Verhofstad.

The 28-year-old followed up back-to-back 180s with the magical 141 checkout, although she was forced to defy a late rally from Dutch thrower Verhofstad, converting a 116 combination to complete a 5-3 victory.

After averaging over 99 to defeat German star Max Hopp in round two, she continued her charge to reach the last 16, where she succumbed to former Lakeside Championship winner Christian Kist.

Sherrock is no stranger to making history - becoming the first woman to triumph on the Alexandra Palace stage with wins over Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic at the 2019 World Darts Championship.

The Milton Keynes star also made a final on her World Series of Darts debut in 2020, before becoming the first female player to reach a TV ranking quarter-final at the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts.

More recently, Sherrock lifted the inaugural Betfred Women’s World Matchplay title last summer, and she came agonisingly close to securing a PDC Tour Card at Qualifying School in January.

The history-maker is set to return to PDC competition in May, when the third weekend of Winmau Challenge Tour action takes place at Milton Keynes’ Marshall Arena from May 5-7.

Sherrock is also expected to feature in the next set of PDC Women's Series events, which will be held at the Marshall Arena on May 13-14.

The opening weekend of the expanded PDC Women’s Series – which will see 24 events held across six weekends in 2023 – saw a record 141 players competing in Leicester last month.
