Barry and Van der Velde triumph on Winmau Development Tour

Keane Barry (PDC)

Keane Barry and Jurjen van der Velde collected titles as the Winmau Development Tour season continued in Milton Keynes on Saturday.

Friday’s opening Development Tour double-header saw Barry and Dutchman Danny Jansen share the spoils at the Marshall Arena, and the Irishman came through a 365-player field to return to the winner’s circle on Saturday, alongside Van der Velde.

Event Two winner Barry celebrated back-to-back Development Tour titles with Event Three success, sealed with a whitewash win over Poland's Sebastian Bialecki.

The former UK Open semi-finalist recovered from 3-2 down to defeat Keanu van Velzen in round three, before overcoming James Beeton, Christopher Toonders, Owen Maiden and Lennon Cradock to advance to the Event Three decider.

Bialecki posted a ton-topping average on his way to pocketing the £1,000 runner-up prize, before following up wins over Owen Bates and Harry Gregory with a dramatic semi-final triumph against Wessel Nijman.

Nijman produced the performance of Event Three, averaging 111.33 in a second-round demolition of Alfie Fisken, while also registering a 101 average in his deciding-leg victory over Beau Greaves in the last eight.

Greaves sealed her place in a second consecutive quarter-final by edging out Cam Crabtree in round one, posting a ton-plus average in victory over Myles Avory, while also whitewashing Event One winner Danny Jansen in the last 16.

Event Two runner-up Van Veen also succumbed at the quarter-final stage, having earlier averaged 107.36 in his third-round whitewash of former JDC World Champion Bradly Roes.

Tour Card Holder Van der Velde then rounded off Saturday’s action with Event Four glory, whitewashing Leighton Bennett to claim his third Development Tour crown.

The Dutchman also whitewashed Lloyd Walker in the semi-finals, having earlier seen off the challenges of Greaves and former World Youth Championship finalist Nathan Girvan.

Bennett, meanwhile, continued his strong start to 2024 to scoop the runner-up prize, demolishing Germany’s Dominik Gruellich and Event Three runner-up Bialecki in the closing stages.

Elsewhere, Barry’s bid for a third consecutive title was curtailed by Bialecki in the quarter-finals, as the Pole recovered from 4-2 down to avenge his Event Three final defeat.

Following Saturday's double-header, the opening weekend of the 2024 Development Tour season concludes with Event Five on Sunday, with play getting underway at approximately 1030 GMT.

The top two players from the 2024 Development Tour Order of Merit will win a PDC Tour Card for 2025-26 and a place in the 2024/25 Paddy Power World Darts Championship.

The event draws and results are listed in the Match Centre.
