Jack Tweddell clinched his maiden Winmau Challenge Tour crown with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Mervyn King in Sunday’s Event 15 final.
Tweddell rounded off the year’s third weekend of Challenge Tour action in style, winning eight consecutive matches to pocket the £2,500 top prize in Milton Keynes.
The 30-year-old returned to the sport earlier this year following a seven-year hiatus, and after reaching the Event 14 semi-finals on Sunday, he continued his impressive form at Arena MK.
Following a comeback win over Jim Moston, Tweddell recorded successive 5-1 wins against Ryan Palmer and Sweden’s Andreas Harrysson to reach round four, where he overcame Ryan O’Connor.
The Swindon star then edged out Alexander Merkx in a decider, before dispatching Latvia’s Dmitriy Zhukov and former UK Open runner-up Colin Osborne to set up a winner-takes-all clash with King.
Tweddell stormed to his breakthrough title in emphatic fashion, following up clinical 64 and 78 finishes with an 85 checkout to seal the deal with a 12-dart hold of throw.
King was chasing his second title of the weekend, having whitewashed Henry Coates to celebrate Event 11 success on Friday.
The 59-year-old defeated the likes of David Pallett, Shane McGuirk and Nathan Girvan to progress to Sunday’s showpiece, as he cements fourth spot on the Winmau Challenge Tour Order of Merit.
The top two players from the final 2025 Challenge Tour Order of Merit will secure a PDC Tour Card for 2026/27 and a place in the 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas occupies top spot ahead of Switzerland’s Stefan Bellmont, with former World Youth Champion Ted Evetts £100 above King in third spot.
The next weekend of Challenge Tour action will take place later this summer, as Leicester’s Mattioli Arena plays host to Events 16-20 from August 15-17.
