PDC Stats Analyst Christopher Kempf assesses the top ten PDC stars - based on their last 200 legs played - following last weekend's European Darts Grand Prix.
#1 Averages - Josh Rock
#1 OChE - Gerwyn Price
#1 Doubles - Gian van Veen
#1 171-180 - Dirk van Duijvenbode
#1 99, 101+ Checkout - Josh Rock
With four players achieving a 100+ average over their last 200 legs, there is fierce competition for the title of #1 form player in the PDC.
Never before have so many players reached this milestone at one time, and while this is familiar territory for Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries, Stephen Bunting has broken the 100 average mark for the first time and Dirk van Duijvenbode, while just below 100, has set personal records for averages and totals of 180s.
At the top of the pile is Josh Rock, making April the most impressive month yet seen for the young player from Northern Ireland, but he only clings to a 0.23 point lead in averages after substantial strides made by his closest rivals.
Not all 100 averages are created equal, of course: even though Rock, Humphries and Bunting have higher averages, Gary Anderson's successful Sindelfingen title defence makes him the #2 player in OChE rating, second only to Price.
Anderson's 7-2 demolition of Van Duijvenbode and 8-0 final whitewash more than compensate for the erratic averages that the Scotsman recorded throughout the European Grand Prix, and justify his OChE-indicated likelihood of winning 64.38% of his legs against ProTour opponents.
Age and a limited European Tour travel itinerary have not prevented Anderson from continuing to produce elite performances; his 84 maxima surpass the 200-leg totals of all but two Premier League players, and dwarf his great rival Michael van Gerwen's 54.
On current form, only Price would be favoured to win more legs; but the two World Champions have not yet clashed on the ProTour in 2025.
Luke Littler, now ranked merely 11th on the Form Guide, may have plunged from an unassailable #1 position at the beginning of the year but his inconsistent averages have not impacted his ability to win matches.
Incredibly, the teenage sensation is an overwhelming favourite to finish at the top of the Premier League for the second consecutive year.
His last week of action in the Premier League saw him win three matches by a combined margin of only four legs, contributing to a two-point decline in his OChE rating.
However, so long as Littler can get six legs won in each match, whitewashing his opponents or racking up lots of ten or 11-dart legs is vanity.
That said, an OChE rating of 58, while still excellent, does inspire less confidence that Littler can get over the line in such matches, compared to when his rating was touching 70 during the World Championship.
While Michael van Gerwen's doubles percentage of 38 thus far in the Premier League - on par with that of the average PDC player - is illustrative of his struggles in the 2025 tournament, he has begun to rectify that defect in his game in recent weeks.
The German Grand Prix final between MvG and his fellow countryman Gian van Veen was a clash between the two players who now enjoy the highest and second-highest doubles accuracy over 200 legs of any player in the PDC.
Unfortunately for both players, neither have been able to supplement that clinical finishing with the heavy scoring needed to compete regularly with Littler or Price - both Dutchmen are stuck on 54 three-treble visits in 200 legs, just barely above average for a PDC Tour Card Holder.
Given that Van Gerwen's most recent 200 legs include his championship run in Munich - and he still ends up on a mere 94.7 average - this indicates that while Van Gerwen is still producing world-class finishing and scoring, he has rarely been able to manifest both at the same time, in the same match.
*OChE (Ordinal Checkout Efficiency) explained:
OChE is a metric designed to evaluate the efficiency at which players convert their averages into legs won.
The statistic is the % of legs a player would expect to win on the ProTour, calculated from a weighted average of 4,5, 6 & 7 visit checkout rates.
