Motomu Sakai surged to the top of the PDC Asian Tour Order of Merit with back-to-back titles last weekend, as Man Lok Leung and Alain Abiabi also prevailed in Mongolia.
Sakai took centre stage during the year’s fourth weekend of Asian Tour action on May 17-18, as a 157-player field competed in Events 13-16 in Ulaanbaatar.
Japanese star Sakai produced a hat-trick of outstanding displays to clinch the Event 13 title on Saturday, landing three consecutive ton-plus averages en route to victory.
The 28-year-old conceded just three legs in his opening four matches, before booking his place in the last eight with a 4-2 success against former PDC Asian Champion Haruki Muramatsu.
He later overcame Boldbaatar Bayarmagnai, Alexis Toylo and Leung to clinch the title, averaging 100.64 against the latter to cap off a terrific campaign.
Sakai extended his winning run with Event 14 glory, breezing through to the last 16 before recovering from 3-2 down against Batsuuri Narmandakh in advancing to the last eight.
After landing another ton-plus average in his demolition of Ryuta Arihara, Sakai then followed up a semi-final success against Lok Yin Lee with a five-leg whitewash of Abiabi to complete the double.
Sakai’s bid for a third consecutive Asian Tour title was halted in the last 16 of Event 15 by Ganzorig Lkhagvasuren, as Hong Kong’s World Cup star Leung came out on top in Sunday’s opener.
The 26-year-old relinquished just six legs in his seven matches, sweeping aside the likes of Christian Perez, Mikuru Suzuki and Paolo Nebrida in progressing to the final.
Leung averaged 104.87 to defeat Nebrida 5-2 in the last four - having averaged 108 against the same opponent in Saturday's Event 13 semi-finals - before overcoming Yuta Hayashi by the same scoreline to claim his seventh Asian Tour crown.
The final event of the weekend saw Abiabi celebrate his maiden Asian Tour title, which he sealed with a hard-fought 5-3 victory against Tomoya Goto in Sunday’s Event 16 showpiece.
The 44-year-old had edged out Ryusei Azemoto in the semi-finals, which was preceded by wins over Hayashi, Yoshihisa Baba, Keita Ono, Mitsuhiko Tatsunami and Urjindulmaa Tuuchintav.
Sakai’s brace of titles have catapulted him to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit with eight events remaining, while Leung has leapfrogged Singapore's darting icon Paul Lim to move into second position.
Azemoto occupies fourth spot above Ono, Toylo, Goto, Lourence Ilagan and Abiabi, with three-time World Championship qualifier Nebrida completing the top ten.
The 2025 PDC Asian Tour continues with Events 17-20 in Singapore on July 5-6, and coverage of each event will be shown live on PDCTV from the last 16 onwards
