Price delighted to continue winning run in Kiel

Gerwyn Price was delighted to continue his winning run last weekend, after ending his two-year wait for a European Tour title in Kiel.

Price dispatched Gary Anderson 8-3 to win the Elten Safety Shoes Baltic Sea Darts Open on Sunday, claiming his ninth European Tour title which puts him joint second with Peter Wright in the all-time list.

“I’m just chuffed to get over the winning line and get another European Tour title under my belt,” said Price.

“I haven’t won one for two years so honestly I can’t put it into words. I played well all weekend. The crowd were fantastic for me which definitely helps. It means a lot to me.

“I want to win as many as I can; to be number two in anything is not what I want, you want to be number one.

The Welshman has decided to make some changes in 2025, developing a new look for himself on the stage by losing weight while also changing his demeanour.

“New darts, new shoes, new beginning” joked Price, who has regained his place in the world's top ten.

“The emotions come during the game and it’s still something I don’t try and do.

"It just comes naturally and if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen. People think I do it on purpose and I don’t - I’m just the player I am.”

Looking ahead to the Betfred World Matchplay, Price is feeling confident going into it, and is hoping to finally lay his hands on the Phil Taylor Trophy after losing out in the final back in 2022.

He will kick off his campaign against Daryl Gurney, who recently won the World Cup of Darts for Northern Ireland, beating Price and Jonny Clayton in a thrilling Frankfurt final last month.

“I reached the semi-final and the final in the ProTours [last week] so to win this one as well definitely puts me in good stead for next week in the World Matchplay," continued the 2020/21 World Champion.

“It’s all on the day and there are so many good players in that tournament, anybody can win it.

"You need to be on your A-game but I’m playing really well and fingers crossed I can carry that into the World Matchplay.”
