Crabtree & Gruellich share Dev Tour spoils; Greaves secures PDC Tour Card

Dominik Gruellich and Cam Crabtree claimed a title apiece on the Winmau Development Tour on Saturday, as Beau Greaves secured her PDC Tour Card for 2026-27 on an action-packed day in Wigan.

The year’s final weekend of Development Tour action began with Events 21-22 at the Robin Park Leisure Centre, with almost 300 players battling it out for the £2,500 top prize in each tournament.

Gruellich kicked off proceedings with Event 21 success on Saturday afternoon, denying two-time Women’s World Matchplay champion Greaves in a decider to clinch his second Development Tour title of the campaign.

Following early wins over Charlie Large and Ben Townley, Gruellich averaged almost 106 in a 4-1 demolition of Ronan McDonagh, before landing back-to-back 12-darters to complete a comeback win over Tyler Thorpe in the last 16.

The young German then reeled off five straight legs to dispatch Charlie Manby 5-1 in the last eight, while he ran out a 5-3 winner against Latvia’s Ralfs Laumanis in the semi-finals.

This created a winner-takes-all showdown against Greaves, who converted a sensational 164 checkout on the bull to force a last-leg shoot-out, but it was Gruellich who prevailed after surviving multiple missed match darts in a dramatic finale.

Greaves would have overhauled Crabtree to claim top spot on the Development Tour rankings with victory, although the Englishman capitalised on that reprieve to celebrate Event 22 success and extend his buffer at the summit to £3,175 with just two events remaining on Sunday.

The 22-year-old got his title bid underway with a 102.46 average in a 4-1 win against McDonagh, who was again on the receiving end of a ton-plus average from the eventual champion!

Crabtree followed up a 4-2 success against Morgan Shillito with successive whitewash wins against Matthew Gordon and Adam Gawlas, before continuing his charge by sweeping aside Florian Herrmann and Jamie McKinnon.

Following a deciding-leg victory over Ireland’s Dylan Dowling in the last four, Crabtree stormed to his fifth Development Tour title of 2025 with a 5-2 thrashing of Sweden’s Viktor Tingstrom, aided by a crucial 112 finish midway through the contest.

It was also a significant day for Greaves, who has now qualified to receive a PDC Tour Card for 2026-27 following her exploits on the Winmau Development Tour throughout the year.

The Doncaster trailblazer won three of the year’s first six events, and now cannot be caught by both Owen Bates and Charlie Manby, who occupy third and fourth spots respectively on the Development Tour standings.

The 2025 Development Tour season will conclude with Events 23-24 on Sunday, as the race for Grand Slam and World Darts Championship qualification concludes in Wigan.

Crabtree is poised to make his debut in next month’s Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts, with only Greaves now able to overhaul him and claim top spot going into Sunday’s decisive double-header.

The top three players on the Development Tour rankings will also qualify for the 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship, which gets underway at London’s Alexandra Palace in December.
