Alexandra Palace - Venue Information

ALEXANDRA PALACE was originally opened on an area of land across Muswell Hill and Wood Green in North London in 1873, but was destroyed by a fire only 16 days after opening.

The idea for a "Palace for the People" was formed in 1858 and Alexandra Park - named after Alexandra of Denmark, who married Prince Edward, the Prince of Wales - was opened to the public five year later, although it would be 1965 before building work on the original Alexandra Palace began.

Following the 1973 fire, a new Alexandra Palace was opened on 1 May 1875 and covered seven acres, centred around the Great Hall.

In 1980, a second fire destroyed much of the complex, which has been restored to create a magnificent historic building set within 196 acres of delightful parkland, offering breathtaking panoramic views of London.

The selection of impressive halls and elegant rooms totalling 13,000sqm can accommodate from 10-7,250 people, offering exceptionally stylish, versatile and flexible facilities.

Catering for luxurious banquets, major conferences, large-scale exhibitions, concerts, product launches, presentations, themed hospitality events, seminars, meetings, corporate entertainment plus team-building events in the grounds.

Also within the complex is an ice staking rink, and the building itself is now classed as a Grade II Listed Building.

Alexandra Palace is easily accessible via all forms of transport with 2,000 free on-site car parking spaces. The nearest Tube station is Wood Green, and the nearest Rail station is Alexandra Palace.

The bands to have performed at Alexandra Palace include Pink Floyd, The Stone Roses and more recently Morrissey, The Darkness, Kaiser Chiefs and Travis.

The final stages of the News of the World Darts Championship were staged at Alexandra Palace for 15 years from 1963-1977, being televised from 1972 onwards.

In March this, it was confirmed that the Professional Darts Corporation will stage the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship in the West Hall at Alexandra Palace from December 2007 onwards.
