MERVYN KING and Ronnie Baxter have refused to get carried away with their positions in the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts.
Wins for the duo at the CIA in Cardiff on Friday night ensured that they sit three points clear of Adrian Lewis and Simon Whitlock in the top four of the Premier League table.
While Phil Taylor is five points clear at the top, both King and Baxter enter the final six games in a strong position in their bids to earn places in May's play-offs at the Wembley Arena.
"There's a long way to go yet," said King, an 8-2 winner against Terry Jenkins in Cardiff.
"With six games left there's a possible 12 points for me or a possible nothing for me and 12 points for opponents who might jump over me.
"There's a lot of darts to play yet and I won't look too soon."
After completing a league double over Simon Whitlock with an 8-5 victory, Baxter also denied that he was already assured of a play-off place.
"Nobody wants to be at the bottom at this stage and fortunately I'm not," admitted Baxter.
"I'm not focusing on the league position but it's always in your mind because you're human."
King's win over Jenkins saw him average 95.08, his third lowest of the season, but he felt that was lowered by poor legs at the start and end of the match.
"It's a struggle to adjust from the practice board to the match board and it takes two or three legs sometimes," he said.
"I started slowly and finished slowly but I did enough in the middle to get the result, so overall I'm quite happy."
