German Darts Championship Launched

THE first German Darts Championship will be played on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 December 2007 at the Gerry Weber Event & Convention Centre in Westfalen.

The tournament will allow PDPA members to compete with local hopefuls over two days for 100,200 euro in prize money, with the winner taking home 25,000 euro.

The German Darts Championship will be filmed by DSF and broadcast in Germany, following the success of the PartyPoker.net Players Championship in March at Frankfurt's Ramada Bad Soden.

A second Players Championship will be staged in Germany on Saturday 27 October at the SeePark Kirchheim.

The German Darts Championship itself will be played in a Players Championship format until the semi-finals and final, which will rise to the best of seven sets.

"We're very excited to be staging the first German Darts Championship," said PDC Chief Executive Tim Darby.

"The German Darts Corporation have worked extremely hard over the past 12 months and the Players Championship in Frankfurt earlier this year was highly successful.

"DSF have been great supporters of PDC darts in recent years through their coverage of major tournaments, and I know they are looking forward to hosting their own big-money event this December.

"It will be the final tournament before the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship and I'm sure all our players will be looking to have a successful event."

Entry for PDPA members will be £65, with non-members resident in Germany, Austria or Switzerland able to enter the main draw for an additional fee or enter a qualifier.
