John Lowe: Old Stoneface

JOHN LOWE has achieved almost everything during a glittering career which spans 30 years as a professional darts player.

Now 60, the legend of the game has released a 'warts and all' autobiography looking back on his life both inside and outside of darts.

From the moment he was asked to step into a darts match in his local pub Lowe has never looked back, going on to claim three World Championship titles.

With his nerveless displays earning him the nickname Old Stoneface, Lowe also captained England and has gained tournament wins around the world.

A former Chairman of the Professional Darts Players Association, Lowe looks back on the split which saw the top players break away from the BDO, eventually forming the Professional Darts Corporation.

Lowe also lifts the lid on his life away from the oche, from his childhood in the Derbyshire village of Tupton through to the second marriage which he is now enjoying with Karen.

While he admits his own darting powers may now be waning, Lowe adds his own thoughts on the current direction of the sport as well as his opinions on the best players ever to play darts.

As forthright as ever, Lowe also looks back on the momentous day in 1984, when he became the first player to achieve a perfect nine dart leg in a televised tournament - earning him a £102,000 windfall.

A perfect stocking-filler for all darts fans this Christmas, Old Stoneface lifts the lid on one of the true legends of the sport.
